17th century Britain, such an unsafe time for women where men are threatened by independent women, where fear and ignorance abound and often the very women who try to alleviate the suffering of others with their knowledge of herbs and midwifery are accused of witchcraft and put to the test, with such barbaric methods that it is impossible for them to prove their innocence.

I started reading and after that couldn't put it down but when I had to i couldn't wait to get back to it. I was so worried Honor and Alice would end.up on a bonfire. To end the story so happily. I loved the book couldn't you continue Tess and Jens story by finding out Tess is Honors (lots of great brand daughter)

This is a two part type story, one half in 1661 and the other part now. Sorry to say I skipped a bit of the earlier story and concentrated more on the modern dilemma. No murders just witch's and witch hunts, a person in prison, and a misunderstanding.
