5.0 out of 5 starsVery enjoyable read
Reviewed in Australia on 14 February 2022
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. I liked how I never could guess what would happen next and how the story would end. It was also good the way the author regularly goes back to the past in a way that was very easy to follow. Some reviewers here mention that they found it odd that the Italian characters in Italy all spoke English, however that did not concern me at all as I was so engrossed in the plot that I never gave it a thought! Recommend this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Formulaic, but readable

A good book for reading on holiday. (Spoiler alert) Struggling daughter finds mothers secret, biological father appears, dies and leaves wine estate to struggling daughter, other kids get angry. Daughter's (non-biological) invalid father needs care, knows about mother's secret and daughter's genesis but doesn't let on. Daughter confused, but all plays out with a fairy tale ending. Romantic nonsense at its best!!

Saw the reviews and took the plungeand purchsed this. Like the other reviews it is an easy read. There is attention to detail, however felt there could have been more emphasis on the various story lines that run throughout the book ... finsihed it feeling very let down.

I kept going to the end with this, but I have to confess I wasn't wholly gripped. Lots of lovely description of Tuscany, well written. But my overwhelming reaction was of sadness for missed opportunities.

Nice read and beautiful descriptions of the Tuscany vineyards but feel that the characters could have been explored a little more

It’s all been done before but a capable pair of hands. A little more originality would go a long way.

ah, another novel written about Tuscany... oh wait, all the major players are British or american. One of the wonderful things about Italy is the food. the food these people ate was decidedly un-italian, further, there was even a comment about pasta being all carbs and fattening. So these non Italians are in Italy, and they're not eating Italian food (at least they are apparently drinking a LOT of Italian wine) and they have their little family drama which is very implausible. The perfect father, a paraplegic was actually an egocentric self serving jerk who totally starved the hopes out of his wife, the protagonist's mom, who died of cancer ten years before the story starts, while her star crossed lover, the protagonist's father languishes in his Tuscan Vineyards completely hidden from the protagonist until he dies and leaves her the whole farm. Her unpleasant half siblings are awarded a house in England, but they aren't happy with that and when the brother threatens to fight over it, our protagonist just buys him out for her new half sister! I mean, really, that's what strangers do, right, hand over 1/2 a million (a million? who knows?) pounds so the self serving half sister won't be sad. I was pretty darned disappointed with this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Romance, Poor On Historical

I was perplexed by this novel quite a few times, making me wonder if it was rushed to publication before really thinking things through. For example, the timing of the birth of the protagonist (a very important issue) was a bit chaotic until close to the end. I honestly thought the author made timing mistakes.
While I expected an historical novel of literary value, this story delivered more of a romance saga. A high end romance, nevertheless a romance. So much more could have been written about regarding the Tuscan wine industry, and the region itself, and still maintain the love story.
