This is not my absolute favourite book from Liane Moriarty, but it's still an excellent read. It has all the good ingredients of 'Big Little Lies' and 'What Alice Forgot' including love hate sibling relationships and lots of very funny moments. It feels so much like real life, almost like your own memories. Being one of several Irish sisters I have actually had a fork stuck in me by an angry sister, as happens in the wonderful opening scene.
Three triplets having their annual birthday dinner in a restaurant have an ugly fight that ends up with trips to the hospital. Gemma, Cat and Lyn are all facing life events. Cat is trying to deal with her husband's infidelity. Gemma is damaged by a past relationship and Lyn can't stop being a superwoman. The themes of having children, not having children, trust and betrayal run though this book. It's not a downer though, on the contrary it's very funny and optimistic. Highly recommended.

Three sisters, one birthday, one little problem...
The three Kettle sisters have had a mortifying mishap. Their raucous, champagne-soaked birthday dinner has come to an abrupt end following a violent argument and an emergency dash to the hospital.
So who started it this time? Was it angry, hurt Cat, still recovering from the 'night of the spaghetti'? Was it Lyn, so serenely successful, at least on the outside? Or was it quirky, dreamy Gemma, the sister who can't keep a secret except for the most important one of all?

As an avid reader i am amazed, no ashamed, I've not heard of Liane Moriarty until 2 weeks ago. Now finished my second story by her. Interesting characters, entirely believable and in everyday situations. Not the genre i generally go for, back am now going back for more. Tears and gigles in this book. Loved it!!

I absolutely loved this book!!!!
The characters are truly memorable and I loved the interplay between the relationships. There are little touches that make this book truly special and back stories that shed light on how they each developed into such different personalities. Although they are triplets and very close they do not necessarily know all of each other's secrets. The book takes you on a journey through each of their lives and some of it is heartbreaking as you become so attached to them early on and life definitely throws some curveballs their way.
Also as a resident of Sydney Australia it was thrilling to actually know the locations mentioned in the book and made the story become even more alive for me.
This is the second Liane Moriarty book I've read and as soon as I finished I had to buy a third. Her stories are so powerful and really stay with you.
I know this book in particular I will be reading again one day as I was sad to say good-bye to these sisters. I would even go so far to say as this is now in my top 5 favourite books of all time.

This book has some of the most great things in a book, it is by an Australian, about Australians, in Australia and has been true to us Australians in the way we are....however jail instead of the spelling goal is always annoying when ever I see it in our writing, newspapers and the like >:{ we are not American
But that is pretty much all I can fault about a fantastic read. I have found a piece of each of the email characters in myself, which is highlighted be the way in which they also show them finding different side to themselves. Even the men, so I goes to show that everyone has a bit of most personalities within them, we usually only show one most of the time we just don't show them all the time....be boring I everyone was the same all the time, wouldn't it!? Thanks for the great read Laine

I am again dazzled by Liane Moriarty’s skill at telling a story. Life, and Sydney, and triplets, and messy relationships, words flung onto a page, and resulting in a masterpiece Pro Hart would have been proud of.

This is the third Liane Moriarty book I’ve read, and my least favourite. Couldn’t warm to the characters as I have before.
So much drama is rather tiring. Couldn’t stop reading it though, wanted to see how certain situations were resolved.

I seriously laughed my head off, cried, got pissed off, cheered and let's face it, really REALLY enjoyed this book.
You don't need anything more.
Love Liane's work.
I'm working my way through all of her books and shall be quite annoyed when I'm all caught up and left waiting for another.

I was a littleconfused at the begining but once I figured out the characters I got into it and enjoyed the story.
Being set in Sydney was a good change from British or American writing. I got into the small snippits of memory from strangers who interacted with the triplets throughout the book.
It was well crafted story telling and I began to understand each character.
I will look forward to reading more from this author.

I don't usually write reviews but thought it was worth it for this one as if, like me, you choose it based on her other books you will probably be disappointed. It starts with a row between triplets in a restaurant and we don't know what the fight was about. I thought this would be the twist, the big reveal at the end. This doesn't happen. In fact this book is a bit like watching a family through a window, the petty jealousies and arguments, in jokes and irritations. It's quite true to life in some ways (well true to mine anyway!). But there is no big ending, nothing exciting that made it all worth reading. I still wanted to pick it up and find out what happened to the sisters but had I known at the start it was just a series of events and no real story I probably wouldn't have bothered.

I really enjoyed this book. Meet Cat, Lyn and Gemma who are triplets. My head went into overdrive to what it must have been like for the sisters growing up with siblings that are the same age. Also how as a parent do you cope with three babies! When we first meet them though they are celebrating their thirty fourth birthday. The story does flick to the glimpses of when the women are children but it mainly concentrates to the run up to present day.
All the sisters are quite different in personalities. All going through different things in their own lives. Cat was the one that stood out the most for me. I think because she is quite a tough cookie and has the most to deal with out of the sisters. Even though at times she probably isn't that likable, I really had a soft spot for her.
There is a real sense of family in this book. Not just with siblings but with their parents also. One character I really loved was the nana. What a fabulous character. She brings a lot of humor and even though the rest of the family get frustrated with her, they love her dearly.
Three Wishes is a wonderful family drama of which I got totally wrapped into. Whilst everything isn't plain sailing for this family and they have their share of disagreements, I think it reminds us that no matter what, we only get one family and whilst they may not be perfect, they are there to be treasured. A delightful and entertaining read.

Three Wishes doesn’t disappoint
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 September 2018Verified Purchase
Liane Moriaty is one of my favourite contemporary authors. Three Wishes doesn’t disappoint. This is a modern, funny, original story about the Kettle triplets and their slightly eccentric extended family. I loved the little cut-ins from outside observers who encounter the adult sisters in various places and who tend to be entranced (and simultaneously stunned) by their seemingly bizarre behaviour and very public displays of sibling rivalry. But in the end this is a story about growing up, dealing with love and loss and realising that it’s your family that generally love you most, warts and all!

Not up to her usual suspense filled standard

I just love Liane Moriarty's book but I am so sorry to say, this one just did not do anything for me. It is the story about triplets, they are grown up, just living their lives. First of all it was slow and difficult to get to know which character was married to whom and who had a child, which one was single, just took a little time to get into. Unfortunately, by the time I got to know the characters I just didn't care about them. I won't go into the story but nothing exciting happened. By Liane's normal writing standard I expected a big shock or a twist. The only twist I could make out was that someone who came into the narration and was not identified turned out to be someone they had met for 10 minutes somewhere in the story.
So sorry because I love the rest of her books, The Husbands Secret was the greatest book ever.

Fun, clever and amusing

Cat, Lyn and Gemma are triplets. They live life to the full and very often in public. At one birthday dinner which has been getting louder and louder there is an altercation and one sister ends up in hospital. The book then backtracks through the period before the argument and shows what led up to it and what happens afterwards. At the beginning of each section the author also includes an event from the sisters' lives which was also lived out in public but told from the point of view of a bystander - the main narrative usually then describes the event again during the course of the story from the sisters' point of view. This sounds complicated but it isn't. The book is well crafted and the idea that the three sisters have all their major life events in public is clever and unusual.
The book is the story of the three sisters and their various life problems but particularly focussing on their relationship with each other and how that impacts on things. The sisters are intelligent and capable women but each has a life issue to be dealt with or overcome and the story also features their estranged parents and their grandmother. A lot of this is reasonably familiar ground for the readers of "women's fiction" but Liane Moriarty writes with wit and a wry humour which definitely elevates it above many other offerings in this genre.
I enjoyed this book a lot. It is a light read but involving and although I would probably not particularly like to know this family in real life I definitely engaged with them and their problems, hoping all the way through for a heart warming and uplifting ending. I have read all of this author's output and was aware that this is actually her first published novel. I don't think her inexperience shows in the writing but I have become used to the way that she often turns books around with a clever twist or a sudden revelation. This book doesn't do that and to some extent it, therefore, disappointed - but it was only a disappointment in comparison to this author's other novels and my expectations not when compared with other writers. If I had read it as the first of her books I would probably have been more delighted with it - this is a bit unfair on the author but it is my reading experience.
