No Time to Die - well, I've been waiting for quite some time for this to finally get released and yesterday I received my DVD, pre-ordered from Amazon.
I've seen every James Bond film usually at the cinema and have enjoyed them all, to a greater or lesser degree. Like every follower I have my favourites in terms of the movie and also the lead actor and how he handles himself and the narrative of the film. Anyway, this is the same for anyone who has watched a 007 film, the primary role of which is straightforward, high-energy, slightly tongue in cheek (I'm looking at you Roger Moore..) escapism.
We all know the pandemic repeatedly delayed the release of No Time to Die and naturally we got all the hype of the so-called red-carpet premiere recently where Daniel Craig was wearing what looked suspiciously like his old dressing gown (was he trying to tell us something...?)
But I digress.
I read all the reviews here on Amazon before I watched the DVD last night. Read them yourself - the majority of which condemn this movie, but conversely some thought it was "..the best Bond ever.." Eh?
I of course wanted to form my own opinion and was prepared to dismiss the naysayers and enjoy the movie in its own right.
Well, let me tell you all the negative reviews are completely substantiated - as an action movie, I suppose it's just about "OK" but most definitely not as a James Bond adventure. It's ragged, no cohesive narrative, lacking humour and far too self-righteous. I want to watch a JB movie and be entertained, not lectured on diversity and to use what is now becoming an over-worked term "woke-ness".( And going off at a tangent, my last comments could also be applied to Doctor Who on BBC TV these days...)
Back to No Time to Die - I have read all the Ian Fleming books but nowhere can I find that 007 is a black woman (could I have missed this...?).
There has been considerable speculation as to who will be the next James Bond - I suspect that the named favourites to take over the role will by now have called their agents and told them to steer well clear of this franchise, which has clearly slipped into mediocrity.
In general this film is too long, too disjointed, too "right on" and makes a mockery of the spirt of James Bond 007.
Very poor...

BOND GOES TOUCHY FEELY
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 December 2021Verified Purchase
Until now I have been a big fan of Daniel Craig as Bond and have thoroughly enjoyed all the recent Bond series, so I was looking forward to this one with great anticipation. What a letdown. If you read the books or just watch the films you are aware that Bond is a man who carries a number of physical and mental scars which shape his character. Anyone he ever cared about is dead, and he knows that in all likelihood he will shortly be joining them, such is his job. As a consequence he take spleasure wherever and whenever he finds it. For him, gambling, drinking and womanising ar the only respite, just like the Battle of Britain fighter pilots who knew the odds were stacked against them ever making old bones. So why is he all of a sudden being tender, showing emotion and feelings which will get him killed even quicker. He even says thank you to the girl who is replacing him and getting in his way. If you want to see a girl power movie great, just don't use the Bond franchise and rob punters who have enjoyed the franchise until now. I read a numbe rof stories about the script being changed to be more feminine but did not believe they would ruin the brand with this type of rubbish. This is the last time they see any of my money.

Wish I could unsee this disappointing drivel
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 December 2021Verified Purchase
I had so looked forward to seeing this film but was very disappointed. It was nothing like any of the previous James Bond movies. Slow moving, confusing "plot" (if there is one, I couldn't tell), Bond himself had become a bit of a softie, a woman had replaced 007, he has a daughter, the baddie only showed up half way through, random agent in a barely-there dress appears for 10 mins then vanishes, Felix Leiter killed, I fell asleep for part of the movie, then awoke to find Bond has been killed too! All in all, a traumatic nightmare of the Bond franchise - I so wish I hadn't watched it.

Terrible

This was not the usual James Bond movie that we know and love! I was pleased to get this DVD delivered before Christmas, and my husband and I sat down to watch on Christmas Day. To begin with, the sound was appalling. We couldn't hear what the actors were saying to each other, which meant we couldn't pick up the plot. One would hope in this day of advanced technology, the sounds team could've made the dialogue clearer. This was the first spoiler. Then the initial scenes of the film were so dark, we couldn't make out what was happening! Again, modern technology could be better - much better. What's with everyone acting in the dark? This did improve as the film progressed; but by this stage we didn't care anyway. The plot was muddled and emotive If you want a love story, then that's the type of film you like. I don't! The most glaring omission from this film, was the humour ... no humour. The characters were not likeable - not even Daniel Craig in this film. The child was an unnecessary distraction; with it's inane chattering. James Bond as a franchise, is British to the core, full of that iconic British humour, loads of dare devil stunts, etc., etc... What a dud this film was. I don't think I'll bother watching another James Bond film after this.

Boring

My husband and I were waiting to see the new Daniel Craig James Bond. We were extremely disappointed. The best scenes are the scenes you see on the TV trailer. An older Daniel Craig, weak pathetic James Bond. Very poor story, dialogues, editing, music (despite by Hans Zimmer), casting. Most of the time you can't hear what the actors are saying either because of the music being so loud as in most movies or because of bad diction. I hate movies in which the music is more important than the dialogues but these days, it is practically every movie. All in all, a total waste of time and money. Plus I am more than fed up with movies about killing others, violence and revenge. I do not recommend buying this movie.
