I loved the original cartoons which were much better in every way than the newer ones.
The packaging was very disappointing in so far as the the discs were printed on both sides. Not the quality I would have expected from a company like Amazon.

Just received, 159 episodes
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 February 2020Verified Purchase
I have not even played them yet but thought it worth reporting that the discs contain 159 episodes
- that other one on sale for £39 also boasts 159 episodes
- I have attached pictures with the episode lists
[one picture for each volume - ignore the disk numbers, they make no sense to me either]
- I could find no explanation on the label for the ** / * next to 11 episode titles; perhaps they are the censored episodes?
- If the Wikipedia episode list [Tom_and_Jerry_filmography] is correct then these DVDs are only missing #14 The million dollar cat & #100 Busy buddies

12 minutes of copywrite warnings
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 January 2018Verified Purchase
The discs start with _12 minutes_ of unskippable copywrite warnings. If you wanted to just put in a dvd and watch a 6 minute episode with your kid, forget it. This is not a good product.

Absolutely classic
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 March 2021Verified Purchase
First, to clear up any confusion, this set consists of the equivalent of 12 DVDs, which are recorded onto 7 discs, 5 of which are double-sided. That means that you get 14 hours and 48 minutes worth of cartoons or, to put it another way, a grand total of 159 of them. These are the originals, before they were made on a production line for television. In other words they are well-drawn, well-scripted and - most importantly - actually funny. My grandson loves them and, I must confess, so do I.
LATER: Having now had chance to watch them all, we found volume 10 to be absolute drivel. Whoever was responsible had no idea of slapstick humour, none whatsoever about scripting, nor of appropriate music. All the episodes were atrocious. Volumes 11 and 12 are rather better, and certainly watchable, although not quite up to the standard of volumes 1-9. Still, that gives nine volumes directed by the great Fred Quimby and so makes the set a good buy by anyone's standards, even with the lesser stuff at the end.

Iconic cartoons in a shoddy boxset
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 25 March 2021Verified Purchase
Tom & Jerry being one of the most recognizable comedy double acts of all time surely deserves something a bit more luxurious than this cheaply produced boxset? The plastic packaging looks like something knocked up on MS Paint and the DVD's included (the first 5) are blank double sided discs whilst the final two (the truly awful Chuck Jones era), featuring full colour artwork have clearly been included from a separate boxset and packed into this set to cut production costs. The episode guide insert contains errors and doesn't correspond to some of the disc numbers either.
But at the end of the day, this is Tom & Jerry and is one of the most complete packages we are going to get in these ludicrous PC times. There are two episodes missing and based on some of the reviews, cuts made but it's unlikely we'll ever get the full package. I'd 100% recommend buying this, its just a shame we didn't get a full blown uncut collectors edition with fancy packaging, booklets, vintage artwork, etc.

A classic
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 March 2018Verified Purchase
In this DVD collection we have the classic Tom and Jerry shorts from 1940-1958, plus some of the later ones. They still made me laugh after 70 years, and the animation still looks good too. It brings back memories of when the Tom and Jerry cartoons were shown at tea time at weekends on BBC 1 from 1967-2000. I only liked the episodes up to 1958, then Hannah and Barberra no longer produced them, and the last 2 discs have the later Tom and Jerry shorts from the 1960s, and they were not very good.
