Wallace (Justin Long) co-hosts a popular podcast with his pal Teddy (Haley Joel Osment), focusing on cruel, mocking cringe humor as part of their mission to keep it "real and raunchy." After his trip to Winnipeg to interview the "Kill Bill Kid" -- a teen whose unfortunate samurai-sword video has gone viral -- comes up empty, Wallace decides to make the trip worth his while and find a good story north of the forty-ninth parallel. A handwritten flyer he finds in a bar bathroom leads him to a grizzled old swab (Michael Parks) full of tall tales to share from his life of adventure at sea -- and this is where Wallace's voyage to the Great White North descends into straight-up madness.

Depending on what you feel you can make yourself watch, you may or may not appreciate this film. Without giving too much away, think 'Saw' and you will be on the right track. I can't abide these types of film so obviously I didn't enjoy this viewing experience. What softens things somewhat is the injection of what the filmmakers have thought works for comedy; however the scenes at the beginning of the film are anything but funny, and as the story becomes less and less palatable, the attempts at humour soften the horror, making the story creepy and head-scratching more than anything else.
If you like these types of film, you might see what the filmmakers were trying to get across, but for me, a generous 1.5 stars only.

There was no heart to this movie. The victim wasn't likeable enough to gain any sympathy from viewers, and the villain wasn't charismatic enough to keep your interest in what he was doing. And the weird premise just not weird enough or interesting enough to keep viewers' attention. Made a slight attempt at pathos at the end, which may have worked if you'd been in any way invested in the characters previously.
Features an almost unrecognisable Johnny Depp, but he was wasted. His character was just sort of there, without adding much other than hurrying the plot along a bit.
I loved every goddam second.
Apart from the bit where Justin Long pretended to jerk off a tusk.
