5.0 out of 5 starsUnmissable. Heartbreaking. Insightful. BUY THIS BOOK!

I’m just over half way through this book but I couldn’t wait a moment longer to leave a 5 star review.

This is a book for the ages. A masterpiece of contextual thinking. One that makes you feel everything, think differently about everything and bask in the genius and sensitivity of the literary delivery.

I learned about Glennon on Brené Browns podcast, which was beyond interesting, but contained only really a glimpse of her deep insight and inspiring humility.

This book is a collection of stories, metaphors and musings that could not be more relevant to the current socio-cultural climate.

I am learning, growing and feeling deep grace with every page I read.

If you are sitting there trying to decide whether to purchase this book - you must! It is an investment in yourself, your family and your role in the future of humanity.

Thank you Glennon for such a groundbreaking piece of work. 🙏🏻

I only read the book for bookclub and I found it's hard to believe that it has such good online reviews. I appreciate the honesty of the author sharing her lifestories and the interesting angle for the beginning of the book, but the book itself seems lack of content. The structure of the book reminds me of reading these inspirational book. It keeps repeating the same thing in different formats throughout chapters. The language was dull and prosaic.

This book is for smart women who are a little nuts. It’s actually for any woman with heart who has found the constructs of this society limiting and constraining, whether it be family, school, religion, relationship. Glennon finally gives relief because she is dismantling all these systems with her questioning and I’m finally reading a voice that feels like me that I’ve never heard before quite like this.

Every woman I know needs to read this book! I don’t often do book reviews but every so often one comes along and just slaps you round the heart with its brilliance. I literally read it in 24 hours and couldn’t put it down.

It’s part memoir of Glennon’s life and how she found the courage to leave her husband to marry a woman; Abby, the love of her life, navigating all this with three young children and how they have all created one big family together co- parenting, which is amazing in itself but it’s so much more than that, it’s a story about freeing ourselves from the cages we women find ourselves in when we live for other people instead of our own truth. It’s a guide to find your way back to yourself and to keep choosing yourself over and over again until you are free from those cages.

It’s a beautiful, funny, heartbreaking story about love and loss and courage and wisdom and addiction and anxiety and truth and life.

If you read one book this whole lock down, make this it.

“You are here to decide if your life, relationships and world are true and beautiful enough for you. And if they are not and you dare to admit they are not, you must decide if you have the guts, the right - perhaps even the duty - to burn to the ground that which is not true and beautiful enough and get started building what is.” - Glennon Doyle 💗

1.0 out of 5 stars Untamed - ignore the hype

I bought this book after hearing reviews about how it changed people's lives and the numerous celebrity endorsers. I wish I hadn't. The money would have been better spent having a drink with friends.
I couldn't get past the feeling that the book is a self serving justification for her behaviour. Yes I broke my children's hearts and made them miserable for years but I made them 'brave' in so doing, so that's ok. Also the author believes her audience can't grasp simple concepts She gave us a 3 page explanation about why her daughter was 'brave' not to get her ears' pierced. We get it, its not hard and hardly a revelation that saying no can be difficult.

For those 1 star reviewers who (in my opinion) rather unkindly describe this book as ‘full of instagram memes’ - you’re kind of missing the point. Firstly it’s not. Secondly the essence of the book is to live freely in your own truth. Glennon Doyle speaks authentically. From the heart. She says the hard stuff we all need to hear and call ourselves out on sometimes. She buffers these truths through her own stories, her own, mostly tough, realizations. So yes, there’s elements of motivational speech but mostly it’s a call to arms so many of us need to hear and actively get stuck into. Thank you Glennon for your damned honesty we could do with more of this in the world.

3.0 out of 5 stars Some great sections
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 September 2021

This book is one I read slowly and I started to enjoy it a little more after hearing Glennon recite sections of it on a podcast with Brene Brown. The tiger section is particularly excellent however some others such as 'giving up' on her second child and letting them go to town on screen time annoyed the heck out of me. I found some parts very, very preachy in tone and this is not a compliment. I was about ready to give up on this when she was on Brene's podcast and that was the reason I returned to finish it. I think most people seeking out books like this are on the journey to living a whole-hearted life and so Glennon's aggressive tone of writer's voice irked me a LOT.
I think 3 stars is very fair.

The best book I’ve read this year, and I might be bold enough to say in my life. I ADORE Glennon Doyle anyway. The way she articulates things, her writing, her beliefs, her heart - I just love everything about her...but this book(!!)
It’s wonderful. I think I’ll give it to every female in my life and demand they read it. I made SO MANY NOTES. Just amazing!
