5.0 out of 5 starsUnmissable. Heartbreaking. Insightful. BUY THIS BOOK!

I’m just over half way through this book but I couldn’t wait a moment longer to leave a 5 star review.

This is a book for the ages. A masterpiece of contextual thinking. One that makes you feel everything, think differently about everything and bask in the genius and sensitivity of the literary delivery.

I learned about Glennon on Brené Browns podcast, which was beyond interesting, but contained only really a glimpse of her deep insight and inspiring humility.

This book is a collection of stories, metaphors and musings that could not be more relevant to the current socio-cultural climate.

I am learning, growing and feeling deep grace with every page I read.

If you are sitting there trying to decide whether to purchase this book - you must! It is an investment in yourself, your family and your role in the future of humanity.

Thank you Glennon for such a groundbreaking piece of work. 🙏🏻

2.0 out of 5 starsProsaic !

I only read the book for bookclub and I found it's hard to believe that it has such good online reviews. I appreciate the honesty of the author sharing her lifestories and the interesting angle for the beginning of the book, but the book itself seems lack of content. The structure of the book reminds me of reading these inspirational book. It keeps repeating the same thing in different formats throughout chapters. The language was dull and prosaic.

This book is for smart women who are a little nuts. It’s actually for any woman with heart who has found the constructs of this society limiting and constraining, whether it be family, school, religion, relationship. Glennon finally gives relief because she is dismantling all these systems with her questioning and I’m finally reading a voice that feels like me that I’ve never heard before quite like this.

I have never heard of this author and the promotions were fantastic, so I expected something amazing. Look, some great thought processes, but.... it just didn't get my interest or teach me anything new. And I found the writing so overly enthusiastic I felt like I was at a multi-level marketing rally. Having said that - it is entirely my perspective and I guess other people will need the message. I gave it 3 because it does have some important messages.

I don't follow Glennon Doyle and had never heard of her until I watched her on an episode of Shine On with Reese Witherspoon. She said something in that interview that really spoke to me and I ended up purchasing this book on an impulse. I wasn't expecting much, so I was really surprised when I found myself highlighting every other paragraph and re-reading the whole book for the third time in a week. Glennon's words seem to have embedded themselves on my soul, and have me thinking very deeply about who I am, how I feel about my life, and what I want my life to look life. Not what other people tell me I should want, what I actually want. Since reading it I seem to be collecting similar works by other authors, coming across podcasts and blogs that are opening my eyes to some truths about myself that I had previously had no inkling about. It seems to me that reading Untamed has been the key that has unlocked a very deeply hidden part of myself, and I can see deep changes coming into my life. I highly recommend this book to all women, but especially to Mama's who may be struggling with their identities since having babies.

3.0 out of 5 stars Didn’t match the hype for me...

Before starting this blog I’d never heard of Glennon Doyle before, then came to learn she is Abby Wambach’s wife and it pricked my attention along with all the hype it is getting.
————————
It touches on a variety of subjects aside of her own experiences such as divorce, sexuality, blended families, raising children, racism, activism, spirituality, feminism, addiction and mental health.
*
Glennon tells the second half of her story in her latest book, in a way that is quite raw and honest. Whilst also acting as a self-help book. For me part 1 and 2 came across a little preachy and I didn’t feel I learnt/was enlightened much by its content throughout.
*
I have to say that Glennon and Abby’s story does pull on the old heartstrings and is a fairytale in some respects, which I appreciated and enjoyed.
*
All in all not a bad book, yet not one I’ll rave about to others. However, it is a book full of energy and passion in the authors writing, a bit of a rallying call (for the right audience).
—————————
Key take aways:

- What is most important is what you think of yourself and being the best version of you (that you can be)

- Pleasing others doesn’t always lead to pleasing yourself

- Pain can fuel revolution (change)

- Form your own values rather than those set by social constructs

- Life isn’t easy but it sure as hell can be worth it, by focusing on what you want it to be and letting go of fairytales and expectations
