4.0 out of 5 starsThis is not for the faint hearted.
Reviewed in Australia on 25 August 2021
Having heard that Colleen Hoover delivers some very emotional works, when I needed to use the letter V for a book challenge, this one seemed like as good a place as any to start.

Honeslty. I have no words.

In the beggining I was sceptical. Mainly because Colleen used a word that meant an alcoholic beverage to describe someone eyes matching their tie without actually giving the colour. When I read that my hope for her hype plumted.

This isn't a romance, and when I realised it wasn't, my expectation changed.

When that happened, I was able to sink myself in this book. My emotions ran high. There were times I was disgusted in what had happened, there were moments I swooned, and moments I had to put my kindle down. Time when I thought I knew exactly how it would end.

I will neither confirm or deny my suspicions, though I wasn't entirely off the mark. That in itself shows that reading Colleen Hoover was worth it. That this book was worth taking the time for.

2.0 out of 5 starsSoft core porn mystery written like a teen drama

SPOILER FREE REVIEW FOR THOSE HAVING DOUBTS

I yielded to the hype. I heard "pace, thriller, insane twists" and I thought it was true - I wont listen to the masses again.
I am the wrong audience for this book in many ways. Romance is not my bag; I also took at face value the 'thriller and 'mystery' tags and I shouldn't have.
Even removing those personal preferences from my review - this is still 'meh' at best.

The storyline had enough pace but the plot felt seriously underdeveloped and the writing quality was very Y.A except for the scenes where she talks you though a seeming unrelenting amount of bl*wjobs and while I fine with reading about sex when it works in to the story line - I guess i'm self-aware enough to not be turned on by trauma-bond sex.
I didn't realise I was reading the (exposition only) twist because I spent the entire novel waiting for the author to get to the bit where ..... *twist ending* happened.

I guess I was expecting more depth- somewhere, anywhere! Or at least for things to not to be so obvious. To me this is soft core porn, mystery written like a teen drama.

Absolutely wowed by the brilliance of this book. So suspenseful and expertly woven too. I haven't enjoyed a book this much in a long time. Romance, suspense, psychological thrill - it has it all. Highly recommend!

I couldn’t physically put this book down. Have you ever felt like you just couldn’t read fast enough; like you’re simultaneously both wanting the book to last a long time, but also you can’t get the information quick enough? Yep. This book right here.

Mystery plus thriller plus romance equals a fantastic read, and I loved that at the end... You. Still. Couldn’t. Be. Sure. Well done! Highly recommended.

2.0 out of 5 stars A good twist squandered

Not too bad.
A little pulpy in places, and the sex is a bit cringey.
Plus there is a great twist in the tale that is utterly squandered by the biggest cop-out milquetoast final page I've read in a very long time.

This book has blown my mind! It will stay with me long after I start my next read. SO GOOD!
I’ve always enjoyed a good psychological thriller.

Lowen is a struggling to get by as an author. When she gets the offer of a life time...

She’s to take over as co writer for a famous author, Verity Crawford. To finish her best selling book series...

Not at all sure she’s made the right decision. Lowen agrees to go through Verity’s notes for her next books...

What she discovers is something so twisted, she can’t even get her mind to process it all...

Don’t want to give too much away. As this is a book you need to read and experience for yourself. It does contain some disturbing content. So not for the faint hearted.

I choose to read this book, one because it fell into my go to genre and two because everywhere I looked on social media, everyone appeared to be talking about it !!

I decided to avoid reading any of the reviews and delve into it with no preconceived ideas.

I was either going to, love it or… hate it…
Only time would tell…

And it took no time at all, I loved it !

It wasn’t long until I realised why people were raving about this novel and I fell in love with it from the start.

The writing was absolutely phenomenal.

“Verity” was like nothing I’ve read before.

It was captivating and pure brilliance.

At times I was unsure if I was reading a thriller at all of if was erotica.

However how many erotic novels start with the description of a person having their head squashed by the tyres of a lorry and blood splattering all over innocent bystanders ?

I went through do many emotions throughout this novel, from live to hate, pure disgust including wanting to vomit.

And never did I see that ending coming. Whenever I believed I knew the route this book was taking… BAM !! It would change direction and I was proved wrong.

Making this novel easy to rate the full five stars.

Well I can honestly say I didn't expect any of that. I mean it's CoHo so you expect some kind of magic with the words you are about to read but this was on a whole nother level.

It's been a long time since I picked up a book and refused to put it down until I finished it, it's almost like the book became a part of me in the last 24 hours (another thing it's been a while since I have done). I wanted to know about Verity, I wanted to know Lowen, I wanted to Jeremy and more importantly I needed to know their story. I needed to know what got them to here, how their paths became entwined, how it all unfolds. I guess I just needed it all. And then having it all left me with my jaw on the floor, my heart in my mouth and me wondering WTF just happened.

Having immersed myself in this story and CoHo's magical mind, giving myself to the story and letting my mind run wild with all the words, I have no clue what just happened or how the hell we reached that end but I know I enjoyed every twisted moment of it. The way it was written was perfect, the way the words captivated you was thrilling and the feeling of not being able to get enough of this story or the characters is a feeling everyone should know.

This story has been an experience and one I have loved reading and being a part of. It's one of those books that stays with you for a long time. One that gets you thinking and feeling and then you have no idea what to think of feel and still absolutely love it.

What an amazing book. I am in awe of CoHo right now.

Wow .... just ....wow. That was one hell of a wild ride. It was equally enthralling and unsettling and I loved every page of this book.

Loren has lost her mother and is meeting her publisher because she is now broke after taking time out from her writing to nurse her dying mother. On the way she witnesses a terrible accident and this throws her into the path of Jeremy. They have an instant connection and spark but he’s married and her life is already complicated.

Jeremy turns up again at the meeting she was headed to and a lucrative but daunting offer is put to her. Jeremy’s wife is famous bestselling author Verity Crawford, she’s been in a terrible accident and the publishers want Lowen to take over Verity’s book series and write her 3 last books. They offer her a large sum of money but it’s really the prospect of seeing Jeremy again that makes her say yes.

Lowen takes the job and moves into the Crawford family home to work through Verity’s notes and plan out the first book. While she does this she stumbles on an autobiography written by Verity that paints a sinister, twisted and malevolent picture of Verity’s true nature, her complete obsession with Jeremy and her lack of care for her dead children.

Should Lowen tell Jeremy about Verity’s true personality and her possible responsibility for the loss of their children to win him for herself or should she leave the house and never come back? Also is Verity really as unresponsive, incapacitated and vulnerable as she seems? Lowen has to decide what she must do before time runs out and the secrets within the Crawford house destroy another life.

Full 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 all the way for this story. Gripping the edge of my seat the whole way through and that ending, omg I’m still not sure what just happened. This book has such strongly developed characters, a shocking and engrossing plot with one of the most blindsiding, jaw dropping twists I’ve ever read. This is an amazing, romantic, psychological thriller and one I won’t forget for a long time.

I've not read a book that made me feel like that for a very long time.
Such a fantastic read.
