Gaunt's Ghosts are back in a fresh new look at the beginning.
The war may be over, but duties remain for the brave soldiers of the Astra Militarum. In the ruined border town of Vincula, the newly formed Ghosts of Tanith, along with their commander Ibram Gaunt, find themselves in a thankless police action, trying to establish a permanent peace. But what exactly is stalking them through the shadowed streets, and what dark secrets will the untested, new-founded Ghosts learn about themselves? The Vincula Insurgency is an intense new combat thriller of the Ghosts’ early days, pulled directly from the ultra-classified Ghost Dossier.

Great book too short
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 May 2022Verified Purchase
Maybe I was missing the point? This book is written in Dan Abnetts usual amazing style. The descriptions take you into the moment, be that a battle or just a conversation. So I cannot fault the story, however for the price it's way too short... Was expecting more, still enjoyed it though 😁

A lot of GW books are utter toss, but the Dan Abnett books are always a cut above the rest.

Abnett just has a knack for writing in a way which engages you.
This short novel is set early in the Ghosts' story, so in a way it does not advance the narrative - in another way, it actually does. It certainly shines a light on the social background of the Sabbat Worlds as we learn more about its ethnic history. But the setting also means we get to meet some long-dead friends, which is always good.
Vincula City itself seems like a terrible place; a hot, dry, tired, dangerous city, recently liberated by the crusade, riddled with insurgents. You get shooting, punching, kicking, sex and Gaunt delivers a very funny one-liner regarding Rawne's treatment of another officer. So, what more could you ask for?

Original Tanith First and Only are back!

A Ghost’s story with all the old favourite characters.
I have been reading the Tanith Ghost’s stories since they came out, this was a great addition to the collection,
Dan Abnett always leaves you wanting more, I look forward to more stories like this.
I found it well worth the price.
A nice little hardcover book.

Another great novel by Dan Annett. Nearly finished it in one sitting, the only reason I didn't is because I needed to get up for work this morning. If you're a fan of the Ghosts this is a must read.
