Printed in near original font face hence poor ledgibility compared to today's typographic technology.
The same goes in terms of the for the preface. Words and sentence construct from the early 20th Century.
However, this material book is vastly superior to the woeful Kindle version. It helps massively have a combed binding - the pages fall open just nicely.
There is some controversy about Hanon being useful or not. Personally, I feel I've benefited from it since starting to use the exercises since last year (I'm 60 years old). Its not just about running up and down the keys. It instils discipline and concentration. It also helps with sight reading to some extent. It also teaches stamina, and all in conjunction with the former disciplines.
OK for £6 for a nice new copy.
Thank you.

The most widely used piano technique book ever written, The Virtuoso Pianist was designed to develop agility and strength in all the fingers as well as flexibility of the wrists. Exercises are sequenced so that in each successive exercise, the fingers are rested from the fatigue caused by the previous one. Translated from the original French, this Masterwork edition includes the complete Exercises 1-60 and is clearly engraved for easy reading. Hanon's original introduction is included. He recommends that a student have at least one year of experience before starting this book.
A General MIDI disk is available separately (Item #5715). The disk contains varied styles of accompaniments including pop, classical and jazz for Exercises 1-20.

Possibly the best Hanon book.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 June 2020Verified Purchase
The comb binding makes this book easier to use than most music books that have a normal binding, as it sits flat on the music stand.
Clean printing with all the notes telling you what each exercise is for.

Excellent book and presentation

If you want to progress with playing piano then this book is really helpful. The exercises are progressive and the purpose of each is explained. They also do what they say on the tin, so to speak. The comb binding makes it easy to work from on a music stand. These exercises will give structure and purpose to your technical practice time. Thoroughly recommend.

Total must-have!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 October 2020Verified Purchase
I bought this method after my piano teacher mentioned it to me. I really regret not having come across it earlier (I was up until very recently 5 years self-taught). The exercices are repetitions of scales according to slightly differing patterns, and therefore indeed boring, BUT they enable you to focus on the articulation of your fingers, speed and flexibility. Some people have pointed out that they are difficult; yes, but they can be done at a slower rhythm, one hand at a time (which is what I do). I have noticed a difference straightaway when moving from them to my usual practice. The perfect warm-up for anyone who is serious about learning the piano!

The Bible For Any Pianist
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 October 2019Verified Purchase
Quite literally.. the bible for any pianist. Whatever this costs at the time you purchase you will get back a thousand times over. Even the very first lesson is far more effective to warm up and loosen the fingers than any regular scale. You surely will not find a better or more respected collection of piano studies than this (and its amazing value for money too).
