These movies usually take place in the their own, or comics continuity, but this is a little different as it set in the same reality as the tv shows 'Flash/Arrpw/Legend of Tomorrow.'
Which gives it some added novelty, in that several of the characters from such shows appear. All of them voiced by the original tv actors.
This is actually a compliation of two vixen animated series which first aired online in 2015 and 2016 respectively. Those were in episodes running four to seven minutes. Thus runs them altogether into one long seventy two min [approx] film.
The advantage of that is it does keep this very pacy. As it's basically three stories about Vixen, at various stages in her origin story. Although they all tie together fine.
Some mild language and adult suggestion and violence does mean this is a twelve certificate, so not entirely suitable for those under that age.
Like most superhero origin story films, this is one showing the lead character learning more about who they are. And coming to terms with themselves and their abilities along the way. Which it does here. Mari does have a good hero's journey as a character arc, developing well across the course of these three stories.
The animation is capable. The figures have a decent enough amount of movement, and there is some good use of colour throughout.
There is also, like many superhero movies, an extra scene right after the end credits. Which might be familiar...
Ultimately a pretty good watch. Thanks to a good strong and likeable lead character. And all the fun cameos as well. Well worth four stars.
The dvd has the following language and subtitle options:
Subtitles: English, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish.
Vixen: spirit animal. A five minute long look at the abilities of the character. As with most featurettes, a bit brief but with some good points.
And two twenty one minute long episodes of the cartoon series 'Justice League Unlimited'. Entitled 'Hunter's Moon' and 'Grudge Match.' This series ran for a few years a while back. And featured Vixen in several episodes, although obviously a slightly different take on the character because they pre date this so much. But both are a good watch.
It also has the usual flyer with a code to use to download a digital version of the film onto a digital device.
Very enjoyable, featuring the voice of Stephen Amell and Grant gustin and more of the Arrow-verse crew :)
