Although the anime drawings could have been prettier, it was a delightful movie with lots of feeling.

We love Studio Chizu just as much as our children do. This film is another wonderful tale from the mind of Mamoru Hosoda. The magic being; it is just an ordinary story with not-so-ordinary characters. How would a single mother raise her wolf children if their wolf father died? Where would the best place be to raise such children? Should she raise them to be human or wolf? I am sure millions could relate to this type of quandary. Perhaps that was the intent of Mamoru, but if it wasn't, what a lovely accident. Regardless of the meaning behind the story, it is beautiful, fun, moving and funny. Another visual beauty from Studio Chizu. Our children love this film and have requested it over and over again for many years now. I am sure it will be a movie they will want to watch with their own children one day. Arrived on time and in perfect condition. Worth the buy!

One of the most beautiful things I have ever seen...
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 January 2018Verified Purchase
This film is literally one of the most beautiful things I have seen in my whole life.
Very few things bring me close to tears [Not that I try to act particularly manly or anything, it's just how I am]
However, this film is going on the list of things that made my eyes water.
It's a tale about a woman who meets a wolf man, falls in love and has two children with him. But early on, and while the children are still
l very young, he passes away, leaving Hana to raise the two human/wolf hybrids by herself.
After facing a number of troubles that would be faced by most single mothers, as well as the added difficulty of keeping their identities as wolves a secret from the world, she decides to move to the country, where she can raise them in peace and where the children can choose whether they want to be wolves or humans.
Hana is the perfect example of a good mother, she loves her children more than anything, and that's where the main themes of this anime really shine.
First, the type of love that only a mother has for her children. Watching this reminded me of my childhood, and how important a mothers love is. It showed that even when things seem bad, or if they didn't have any friends, or felt frightened or sad, it didn't matter because as long as they had a mother like Hana, they were the luckiest children in the world.
Second, and similar to the first theme, that the mother would love them and accept them for who they chose to be, human or wolf. This can be likened to parents in real life that support their children whatever choices they make, and love them just the same.
I highly recommend you watch this film, I think the whole family would be able to appreciate this movie.
Side note: I watched it with Japanese audio and English subtitles so I couldn't really comment on the english dub, however from what clips I've seen it seems fair.

Great, moving film for adults or older children.

My husband & I watched this first, with English sub, then let the kids watch in English dub. We really liked it.
I would suggest that it's more suitable for older children though, as the movie gets quite deep towards the middle/ end, & there's not so much watching enjoyment for younger ones.
My 7 year old commented that she really liked the first half of the film & not really the 2nd half.
Definitely watch first, before you let the kids see, & make your own decision.

This movie is amazing, great to watch with the family or on your own. The detail and clarity is astonishing and beautiful, enjoyed watching it in Blu-ray. The sound quality was great too. I've watched the movie before but Blu-ray does it justice, highly recommended!

Just the most beautiful anime film ive ever had the pleasure of watching. Words cannot desribe how much i adore this film from its stunning animation and background art to its lovely music (especially the scene when the children play in the snow). You may need tissues as it is a very emotional film. Just watch it already!

Amazing story and beautiful artwork!
A brilliant film for young and old.
Recommended as a film (alongside Studio Ghibli's) to get kids into anime.
Had me and the girlfriend in tears by the end, very moving.
