""No" I replied with a little smirk on my face. "Dinner Roll is leaving now. Please make sure to tell Aiden later on when no one else is around that I said he can eat sh*t."
Because of Van i'm now bringing back the middle finger salute.
And Aiden, oh my dear stoic Aiden and his scowling impersonal as*hole tendencies had me seriously questioning the big-boys humanity!
""Maybe I can find you someone a little easier on the eyes. What do you think?" Trevor's tone lightened at his joke.
I waited. Then I waited a little longer for Aiden to tell him to shut up and do his job.
But I waited in vain. He didn't say a word.
After everything I had done for Aiden...
I was absolutely riveted to reading Aiden's transformation.
So so so many tidbits I especially liked which had relevant moral depth "I wanted to be better. I wanted to be a good person. I wanted to be someone-not necessarily someone great or someone important-but someone I could live with."
Thoroughly loved and inhaled! You MUST ONE CLICK!
Having recently been introduced to Mariana Zapata and her work The Wall of Winnipeg and Me was my first book to read from her and boy am I glad I read it.
Mariana has a way with words. The book was fun and interesting and capitulating and just really a pleasure to read. 4.5 stars for this piece.
The Wall of Winnepeg is a slow burn kind of love (which is my favorite) from employee/employer relations, to hatred, to friendship and then to love, this book took you on a ride.
The characters are well developed and easy to relate to.
This story follows Van & Aiden's (big guy) journey to happiness.
Definitely a must read!
I am such a huge fan of Mariana's. Her story telling and writing style just suck you in from the get go, making you feel like you're apart of the story.
The wall of Winnipeg and Me was the first book I had read by Mariana's leaving me so absorbed in her storytelling that I am now a happy owner of all her books and a massive fangirl!
I love the story of Adian and Vanny and have re-read this book more time than I can count.
I really applaud how strong each character is portrayed in accepting their faults and weakness. And how resilient they are in the circumstance they've been dealt with.
The story portrays a what, I find a realistic (fears, thoughts and insecurities) approach to love in an a fictional situation.
I also appriciate how the characters evolved without deviating from their original foundation. Which I have notice alot of authors seem to struggle with.
Definitely recommend the read.
I love getting to know both characters. It was an interesting dynamic, especially with all the secondary characters. Zac had an interesting role to play. I wasn't sure about him, but it worked.
I did want more however. More of Aiden's background maybe? Or looking into Aiden's head, thought process..? I wasn't quite satisfied by the tidbits given from Leslie, his old coach. Even Aiden was reticent with telling Vanessa his past. And there wasn't much he told... I am hoping for a book from his point of view. I think that would be amazing to read. What was the point where he felt more for Vanessa than employer/employee?
I just enjoyed this read. I haven't been disappointed yet by this author. I highly recommend this book!

I just wanted to say I really enjoyed this author writing style, it took me a chapter ow two to get into but honestly once I was into it, they had me hook line and sinker and I couldn't put the book down.
SPOILER! DO NOT READ ON IF YOU DON'T WANT THE BOOK SPOILED FOR YOU!
They took way too long to get together, the book was over 90% finished when they got together which was disappointing because I enjoyed Aiden and Vanessa so much that I wanted to read more about them as a couple. I'd have been less disappointed if this wasn't a standalone and there was a book two that allowed me to read more about their dynamic as a couple.
Overall, a great book but should have been dual POV and I was disappointed it took them so long to get together. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author, I am now a huge fan.
I absolutely adore The Wall of the Winnipeg and Me, Vanessa and Aiden are just couple goals.
Vanessa has been working as Aiden's PA for a few years, she does anything and everything for him including his laundry but after overhearing his agent calling her and misreading Aidens reaction, she decides its time to leave.
Flash forward a few months, Vanessa comes home to find Aiden on her doorstep, needing her help and willing to pay whatever the cost for it. So with university debts to pay and a new business plan, she reluctantly agrees to help him out (best decision ever👌).
OH MY GOD did I love Aiden Graves, he's a man of very few words, and when he does speak it tends to be straight to the point or grunts, fortunately for Vanessa she knows him well and this works out fine un the beginning because she doesn't want to be friends with him.
As the story unfolds, it is the sweetest thing to read and see how they slowly let the walls down and get to know one another. Aiden is so caring, he dosnt know how to do friends, he's spent most of his life alone and only concerned about his football career, but Vanessa is different, she has always been different to Aiden 🥰. So he starts to open up to the idea of wanting more in life than just a career and things start to shift for him the more time he spends with her.
Vanessa has dealt with some issues with her family in the past and other than her best friends tends to keep to herself, after the misunderstanding with Aiden at the beginning her trust needs to be earned. I enjoyed watching her thaw a little everytime Aiden did something sweet and unexpected. Vanessa seemed to be the only one who truly cares about Aiden outside of football and it very protective of him, it's so cute with him being a giant of a man ❤.
This is why Mariana you are the QUEEN of slow burn romances, you keep us hanging onto every page, every word, until the right moment comes alone and then BAM, I'm melting. There are some beautifully written scenes in this book that just make me smile and feel all gooey inside everytime I read them 🥺.
All I can say is pease please read this book, you will not regret it.
Of course, that's not the whole story and when Vanessa resigns Aiden wants her to move back. She refuses but he has another card to play. Aiden wants American citizenship so wants to marry her and stay married for five years and in exchange he'll pay off her remaining $150k student debt and buy her a house at the end of the marriage. Eventually Vanessa agrees to marry him but only if her better, as a friend, and she will not to take on the role of personal assistant again because she wants to focus on her graphic design clientele. She moves into the guest room and bit by bit they become friends, although Aiden takes a bit of time to understand what supporting your partner actually means, after bailing out on a trip to Vanessa's mother's birthday. Both Vanessa and Aiden have unresolved issues with their parents who haven't been great role models.
For people wanting a lot of hot sex, this book isn't full of sex, in fact there is only one real sexual encounter portrayed and almost at the end of the book, but it's very tender and sweet and I much prefer the slow build up of a couple caring for each other and falling in love to the very graphic sexual descriptions in other books. The story is really heartwarming and romantic in the little things they do for each other and it's clear Aiden feels protective of Vanessa. These really are the things that show you care and love someone. Leo's arrival and Aiden's reaction to him was the sweetest thing ever. Vanessa's asides, whether internal or spoken were hilarious. I liked Vanessa right from the start, but it wasn't until they married and he began to relax a little that I warmed to Aiden.
I loved the character of Zac, Aiden's housemate, felt for Vanessa's childhood friend Diana and boo'ed at Aiden's manager, the shark Trevor. I can't say I know anything more about the game of American Football which is fine by me, but I did learn how much training, diet and discipline is involved for these elite athletes. It's an excellent read and is standalone with a HEA. I'd love to read Zac's story if Mariana writes it. There were a few proofreading/editing issues which is a shame as they could so easily be remedied. I originally got this book on Kindle Unlimited but I liked it so much and re-read it several times that I purchased it.
