Molly O'Keefe has a magical way of expressing all the emotions and making it real.
Gabe Mitchell and his brother, Max and father, Patrick, have built Riverview Inn in the Catskill Mountains. It's a dream that Gabe long held with his then wife, Alice. And now five years after the painful divorce and a month from opening, Gabe is searching for a chef, with little result.
When Max states the obvious, that Gabe should ask Alice to be their chef, Gabe is reluctant, but desperation has him visiting Alice with a proposal. Come and work at the Inn, get them through opening and a booked wedding, then she can leave.
Stepping into the Inn's kitchen is like stepping into a dream. It's everything Alice and Gabe planned over their years together. Alice had her own restaurant in the city, until drinking and poor management destroyed it all. Now she has to decide whether she can work with Gabe, while the pain of their separation and the reasons for it, hurt her heart. Seeing Gabe dating the local organics farmer is more painful than it should be, but it is a slap in the face for Alice, who lost two late pregnancies, to see a woman, who is a single mother, take Gabe's interest.
But Gabe can't deny that old regrets and physical proximity to his ex wife are bringing back all his wants and desires for her. Could this be his biggest mistake or can they have another chance?

With the help of his father and brother Gabe has built Riverview Inn with chalets for guests to stay in from scratch, all he needs now is a chef and the best chef he can think of happens to be his ex wife! Alice has been going through a hard time, her restaurant business has collapsed, she owes money and drinks too much. What could possibly go wrong. I really liked this book to start with but got a bit irritated with the two main characters, they seemed unable to communicate properly and had never sorted out their problems that ended their marriage, but the attraction was still there. I started off thinking this was a 5 star book but having read it all I would give it 3.5

I am no9t sure what the main female is supposed to be like, but she is just terribly, terribly, terribly annoying. I think she is supposed to be troubled, but she is just pathetic.
this is not a complete story, at least I don’t think it is because there are too many unresolved issues and questions. That is either bad writing or cheating. The author should tell you the story doesn’t end here. There are many series in which each book is complete, so the fact this is book 1 means nothing. It is horrible to try and force you to buy another book to get the answers. I would not spend money on this author.
