I had my suspicions.
I was correct about one person in the story but not quite overall.
Great mystery. Great Author!
Don’t miss out on this one.

3.0 out of 5 starsNot a Psychological Thriller to me
Reviewed in Australia on 24 February 2022
I started this and thought it would be a good start to KL Slater's books but was disappointed. I had been told the end is exciting so kept reading thinking it must be different to what I had thought I had figured out.
I also thought that the daughter Tansy was portrayed as a lot older than her 6 years - more like 11 or 12 to me.
I have a couple more of her books as samples and will maybe try another one later but despite a good plot not well executed. Being her 1st her others may improve.

The Cat's Mother
4.0 out of 5 stars Good domestic thriller

I love a good domestic or psychological thriller and this book definitely falls into the good domestic thriller category. It has well defined characters, some more likeable than others, and is set in a typical English village which I could well imagine. I wouldn’t necessarily describe it as ‘unputdownable’ or ‘gripping’, it didn’t keep me awake at night wanting to read just one more chapter, but it certainly held my attention, wasn’t boring and I really enjoyed it. But for me there were a few unanswered ‘why’ scenarios, which I can’t really mention without giving spoilers, hence only four stars. It would make a good TV drama.

I have read and enjoyed several books by this author and will continue to read more.

If the girl and the polish thug were murdered at different times by different people, how come they were buried in the same spot??? But I did enjoy the book.

3.0 out of 5 stars A great story

The story of this book I really enjoyed. However, I did find some parts of the writing a bit cliched and babyish. Towards the end I felt the author got muddled up if the characters were on the phone to each other or were talking in person. I would still read more KL Slater books. I did guess the ending but I do that with most books. I was however, surprised by Donna's character but won't say why in case I spoil it for anyone.

2.0 out of 5 stars Dull, predictable, left me cold

This moved at a snail's pace. There was too much unnecessary detail which added nothing to the plot and just served to pad out the narrative. The relatively minor characters of Pawel and Aleks were sympathetically drawn but the rest left me cold, including the main character, nosy Kate. The ending was entirely predictable, so no surprises there. I'll be giving the rest of this author's output a miss.

Wow. Loved every second of this. When Kate Shaws husband Michael dies after being questioned about the case of a local woman disappearing. Her whole life turns upside down. There are so many secrets and twists in her own town she doesn't know about . She needs to prove her husbands innocence. But deep down she can't deny that even she isn't sure he is

I love all this author's books & this was another cracking read. I raced through it, loved all the twists & turns & an ending I didn't see coming. She is a brilliant author & her books are always good. Highly recommend this but you might have to put your life on hold for 2 days while you read it like I did!!

Unputdownable and gripping! - no! This was an averagely interesting thriller which I did finish, but by no means unputdownable! Grossly over exaggerated description - very annoying because it leads you to expect so much more from the book.

4.0 out of 5 stars A page turner

This was an enjoyable read and I finished this book in one sitting. Village life and behaviour is described accurately and also how easy some of us wrongly doubt those we know and love whereas others turn a blind eye in spite of overwhelming evidence.

This was such an enjoyable read. Finished it in one day at the weekend couldn't put it down. Would love to read more from this author, the story was well paced with no plot holes and a great twist at the end.
