5.0 out of 5 starsGreat accent 😉

I sat through a Billy show in Canberra (Australia) circa 1980. Didn't understand a single word. "Concentrate" said my partner but that didn't help at all.
In the months before CoVid I visited Glasgow and saw most of the murals including the one of Billy. Nae bother with most of the local accent.
I really enjoyed this autobiography. Very natural style of expression, totally entertaining and I could understand every word!
Thank you Billy, you are such a joy!

2.0 out of 5 starsDisappointing series of anecdotes.
Reviewed in Australia on 20 November 2021
I had great expectations for the autobiography of my favourite comedian but I am left disappointed. I have read 140 pages so far and find the book to be mainly a series of anecdotes. The cruelty and abuse he experienced is described very well but most of the other stuff is trivial. He explains that the book was dictated to his daughter this is just how it reads. Connolly is a most interesting character who has had a remarkable life and this deserves a more coherent treatment than we get here. Granted I still have a lot to read but if it continues in this style it will not redeem itself.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice collection of stories from a lovely and irreverent guy

Billy Connolly is a much beloved figure for very good reasons. His comic and wise take on the world has had thousands rolling in the aisles for decades. In these chronologically arranged reminiscences he glides through the tough early years and the later more settled and sober years when the fires of youth have settled into glowing embers. Having got over prostate cancer, he’s facing life with Parkinson’s with great equanimity, having achieved a huge measure of sanity which is impressive, given the hurts of his youth. He’s a rare talent. This book was spoken into phone software, which had trouble with his Glaswegian accent.

Sir Billy Connolly.
National Treasure.

Comedic Genius.
Windswept and Interesting.

Oh my god, I just loved this book. I've read all that has been previously written about Billy Connolly but this is top of the heap. What makes this book so damn special, is that it is from the heart. Dictated into a worn out blackberry. I didn't feel that I was reading a book. I felt like I was having a conversation with Sir Billy. ( and boy would I love to interview him!)

It was old tales told with a new spin. Situations explained, particularly about his deafness. I remember leaving the flood benefit concert in Brisbane 2011 that he did thinking that he was forgetful, not managing it anymore. Turns out he couldn't hear! I learned something.

I would have read this in one sitting but one thing stopped me, well 2. I was laughing so hard that tears were falling. I was laughing so hard at it all.

Sir Billy, the writing is superb. Your wit, humour and candour is a blessing to the world and I am so pleased that on two occasions I got to sit in the audience of a show.

Thank you Sir

A brilliant read.
Funny and interesting, I had already read all the other available Billy biographies and this autobiography certainly didn’t disappoint. A mix of life story and stand up jokes and anecdotes, a delightful experience to read.
