I've been looking at 'smart' watches for a while...I am invested in the Google ecosystem but in my opinion the Wear OS options try to be all things to all people and end up over promising and not delivering. So I have been seeking a hybrid option that does the basics really well and is largely platform neutral (i.e. Google vs Apple vs Microsoft vs Samsung).

What are the basics? It shows the time, looks nice, provides core health measurements and the app is elegant and simple. How? I am an average guy - I want to be healthier - but I will not be performing a triathlon anytime soon... So.....I do not need a device designed by NASA; I need a device that is robust, reliable and simple to use. It needs to present info to me so I can make my own decisions and not drown me with useless data.

The battery life is excellent.

My experience has been so good I purchased a Withings Body + Scale too.

If the next generation somehow included Google Wallet & Google Play I'd buy Withings gear for a long time into the future. Great product - recommended.

I wanted to upgrade from a Garmin Vivosmart 4 HR, and made a huge mistake by getting this Steel HR Sport. I did so after reading some reviews. I found the following problems.
The length of stride cannot be adjusted. It is set at 0.8 metre (my walking stride is 0.75 metre), so all distances are incorrect. Also, there is no difference in stride between running and walking.
The calories used is hoplessly inaccurate. I consume 2,200 - 2,600 per day, depending upon my exercise routine. The Steel never showed more than 1,700. It never recorded calories burned at gym on the cross-trainer or the bike, which usually were 300+.
Unlike the Garmin, it does not recognise when you are on a cross-trainer, or stepper machine, or rowing machine. So this exercise is never shown or recognised on the app at all. The only thing shown is the steps walking to and from the gym.
The only use for this watch, in my opinion, is to count steps and monitor your sleep. Even the max heart rate recorded is inaccurate. I have exchanged several emails with Withers support (no local phone presence) and their only comment was that they would suggest my problems as a software upgrade in due course. I have had the watch for 5 days and hope that Amazon will take it back.

5.0 out of 5 stars Overall nice tracker
Reviewed in Australia on 12 October 2018
Colour: BlackVerified Purchase
Bought it week ago and it still shows 100% of battery, maybe it is broken (?) or just energy efficient. I've charged it once only, that was after walk on Saturday (it arrived with about 40% of battery), then I'd watches on my wrist for the whole week. I sync data twice a day, thus watches are not connected to phone unless I need to sync. Not sure how good are measurements in comparison with other trackers as this device is my first tracker, but heart rate is more or less correct and in HealthMate app it is possible to see relative differences in rate. Steps are also are about right. Through this week heart rate was not logged twice, one time at night (probably sensor moved away from where it should be), another one - on my way home from office, don't know why.

Good points:
- easy to use, interface is basically one button.
- it automatically detects when I walk (not always correct, though) and records activity in app without need to select activity manually.
- all data is easy to find in HealthMate.
- energy efficient. In workout mode it consumes more battery, but in everyday usage it is perfectly fine after a week already without any sign of losing battery.

Not so good points:
- band is not very comfortable for me, I guess a bit too long and thus clasp is shifted from the middle, making it is kind of inconvenient: if I close it tight, then wrist feels bad; if it is loose, then watches move too freely.
- it has connected GPS (which is fine) and requires app to be open in order to record location data (which is not that fine).
- sleep detection is fine in general, but counts in time I lie in a bed in the morning even though I'm already awake and (I believe) move a bit more than in sleep.
- not really related to device, but anyway. HealthMate app can't log food intakes without MyFitnessPal, which means my data will be available to yet another service I need to register account in. Would be nice to have similar (maybe simpler) functionality in app itself.
- charger is USB based, easy to place watches on but easy to misplace as well if charger lies on a bed, not flat solid surface like a table for example.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great watch (with a couple of drawbacks)
Reviewed in Australia on 20 May 2019

Pros:
- Looks great
- Impressive battery life
- Comfortable strap

Cons:
- Poor 3rd party app integration (I'm most disappointed that I haven't been able to register my cycling rides on Strava; although whether this is Withings' fault or Strava's fault is another question)
- I'm not convinced of the sleep tracker's accuracy (recording sleep when i'm just lying in bed reading)

5.0 out of 5 stars Long battery life, excellent app, non-obnoxious look... what's not to like?

Coming from few different "smart" bands/trackers with the most recent being Fitbit Versa, Withings Nokia Steel HR Sport is the best so far for my needs:
- Not loaded with unnecessary things like mp3 player
- Excellent battery life making it usable as an actual watch
- The app on Android is very light (both in design and loading the phone) and informative. I had no issue with syncing.
- No look-at-me style. Can easily pass as an ordinary clean looking watch
- Has vibrating alarm that actually works
- Step counter is not fooled by driving a car
- Built-in heart rate counter is accurate

I can think of only two down sides:
- If I wake up during the night and do something and then sleep back, the watch doesn't know I slept again so in the morning, it would register only short sleep duration.
- The watch face doesn't have fluorescent needles and numbers, so you have to press the button to see the time always.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good watch overall but could be great

Battery life, looks and style are all very good. Build quality appears solid but would like tougher scratch resistant glass.

Black watch has poor visibility in low light. Numerals should be clearer.
Measurements are not accurate though I have yet to see a smart watch that is.. My iPhone is much more accurate.
Cannot detect that I am walking on a treadmill it thinks that I am on a bike.
Cannot comment on reliability yet. Had I known that I had to use an app to set up and give private info I would not have purchased the watch.

Looks good, Battery still shows %100 after charging 4 days ago. It does exactly what I wanted it to do, App shows my Sleep, Heart rate and how many steps I make a day and shows it all on an Easy Interface that you don't need a university degree to understand.

Amazing battery life! Every time I plug it in it's at 100%! A nice classic looking watch. Not too bulky. Good features with app. Motorized arms was a bonus I didn't expect.

Love the appearance, it does everything I need it to, but I have to re- sync it every morning, so it won’t stay connected to the app on my iOS device
