Seguing into the first tale about the 'Dancing Princess,' co-directors Henry Levin and George Pal - also the producer - allow their special-effects artists full rein. In-between dancing, the princess (Yvette Mimieux) falls in love with a charming woodsman (Russ Tamblyn). In the second story about the 'Cobbler and the Elves,' a Christmas miracle of dedicated labor helps the cobbler out when he most needs it. In the last story, a fire-breathing dragon threatens the kingdom until a lowly servant (Buddy Hackett) saves the day. One of the highlights of this production are the Puppetoons, and another is Cinerama - three projectors working to create a three-paneled (sometimes visibly so), wide-screen panorama. I love this dvd of The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm! I first saw the film in Cinerama in London and heard later that they were having trouble finding all of it for the dvd. So glad they managed to produce this. I've still got the hardcover programme that went with the original Cinerama showing.

One of the reviews on line stated this is a "spectacular" reconstruction another, "gorgeous". This film is both, a work to behold!!! The film itself is very enjoyable if a little too long but it is a grand scale MGM/Cinerama "event" movie like no other - a match to HOW THE WEST WAS WON... a must buy if you are interested!!!

I recall seeing in Cinerama The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm when it was originally released in circa 1962. Reading the reviews of previous disc releases I was put off buying a copy by the reports of very poor picture quality. A friend who owned this latest version highly recommended that I consider buying a copy. I ordered a copy from Amazon Uk sold by Amazon US and it took eight days to arrive by UK tracked post. That evening I projected the film on my Epson 4K projector and Panasonic 820 UHD Player. The visuals on my screen from this restored version were stunning and you could easily at times have thought that you were watching a 4K disc. I watched the “Smilebox" format, which replicates the curved Cinerama experience and if you sit fairly close to ones screen you could almost imagine you were back in 1960’s watching it in three panel Cinerama. The only difference is that this time only occasionally can you see a slight hint of the joints between the three panels. To fully appreciate this new version can I suggest if you buy the disc you first watch on Disc Two the excellent award-winning documentary extra ‘The Restoration Featurette’ which shows how using the latest state of the art technology the badly deteriorated original elements of the film have been restored to look better now than they did on its original release. One can appreciate the lengthy process that erased decades of wear and tear including mould, dirt, and warping and colour correcting. Also shown are the techniques used to seamlessly join all three separate image panels together and create “Smilebox” format. Most of you Cinerama fans will remember how the horizons are often distorted caused by the use of three cameras- this to has been corrected in this version. The sound has also had a full restoration makeover. Disc One is the Widescreen version. This is definitely an amazing restoration and example of what can now be achieved and highly recommended to all you Cinerama Fans.

I just wish they would release the BlueRay version of this or at least so it can be watched in high resolution. This copy will certainly do for the time being as before this it was only available on VHS I think? Anyway the movie itself is an absolute Golden nugget. It is a gem and comes from many a persons childhood memories, those that can recall that far. The quality in the film making to this great collection of stories, is a very warm cosy sort of movie you might want to watch on a cold blustery or snowy, raining, windy night in front of that beautiful coal or log fire, in fact the snow collects in the corner panes of the outside window hah Its Christmas.. Well we can have fantasy. Absolutely love this movie. The quality of this version is not great and the centre lines are irritating at times, But, after saying that for a movie not available In any better quality, Its better then nothing.

I remember going to see this movie in Cinerama the original aspect ratio, the side panels were a bit wobbly but I still enjoyed the film.
The next time I saw it was on Television, that time the side panels were almost eliminated altogether being shown pan and scan making the movie look a bit odd. This DVD transfer is in Widescreen making it as close to the original as possible. If I have one criticism it is that the picture quality is not as sharp as I would wish, and on occasion the panels joins are too obvious, non the less I would recommend it to anyone who wishes to buy it. The sound track is optional in both Italian and English and the sub-titles are removable. I will however be waiting for the Blu-ray release whenever or if ever.

Old classic ripe for restoration

If you consider that the old Cinerama travelogues have all been restored, admittedly on a shoestring, and How the West was Won got a superb multi million dollar Blu-ray transfer, why oh why is this one so neglected. Apparently the rumour that the negative is water damaged is not strictly true, so come on Warner!

This Italian DVD is fine. It would be enhanced with the full Cinerama 7 track stereo being turned out in 5.1 Dolby but what we have is better than nothing. I assume this is a 35mm anamorphic copy as the 2 side panels are cropped, but otherwise it's acceptable.
