You know those books that you can't help clutching to your chest, staring at the ceiling, and sighing when you finish a chapter?
This is one of those books.
'Written in the Stars' is the story of Elle and Darcy and their broken, beautiful hearts that yearn for connection, but aren't quite sure how to get their happily ever after.
I love a fake relationship trope book and Elle and Darcy make this well-worn path their own. Alexandria Bellefleur crafted two well-rounded characters with deep flaws who genuinely care about other people, added an interesting conflict of world views (an astrologer and an actuary? yes please!), and secondary characters who anchored our heroines in reality and provided depth to the story. Elle and Darcy will capture your heart with their love story. A perfect read. One of my favourites of 2020. I can't wait for more books by this author!

This book was fun. The writing style, the character’s chemistry and the plot, all fun! The sex was hot but sweet. My only gripe was that the book ended abruptly and that bummed me out. There is a sequel due but it’s about different characters.

It took me a little while to get around to reading this one but I’m really glad I did!

It is a lesbian and bisexual woman, fake dating, opposites attract!

Darcy and Elle could not be any more different but were both endearing in different ways that was so much fun to read. They had a disaster of a first date, enter a fake relationship with chemistry that is hard to deny. I loved how Darcy stood up for Elle with her family, I would have loved to see more of that- it was a shame there wasn’t an epilogue to this story.

Super easy and fun read but had plenty of moments and quotes where I stopped and was really moved by the words!

Spice was 🌶 to 🌶.5 but it really fit into the story, I didn’t mind that it wasn’t super spicy- the rest of the story and characters make up for that plenty.

Elle is no Elizabeth Bennet...

Some are comparing this to Jane Austen’s classic, ‘Pride & Prejudice’. In fact there are very few similarities apart from Elle having an older sister named Jane, a younger one named Lydia and a love interest named Darcy. Austen’s. most famous and best creation is surely Elizabeth Bennet in ‘P&P’. Elizabeth is feisty, witty, fiercely intelligent and doesn’t suffer fools gladly. Elle (whose full name is Elizabeth) is no Elizabeth Bennet. She’s a believer in astrology, follows her gut over her head and is, as she herself admits a ‘mess’. The only characteristic that she really shares with fiction’s best (IMHO) heroine is her unwillingness to ‘settle’ for less than she thinks she deserves.
This follows romantic lesfic’s well trodden path in terms of how it all plays out. I’ll not spell it out for you, suffice to say that there are really no surprises. But, for some reason (which isn’t entirely clear to me) it seems to have reached a much wider audience than standard lesfic and that has to be a good thing, surely?

However, put into an awkward situation by Darcy’s brother the two have to pretend to be head over heals for each other. With unexpected chemistry and a surprising amount in common, can these two ladies keep up the facade? Or will they actually fall head over heals in love?

This is an adorable spin on the classic Pride and Prejudice. I found this to be a very funny read, with great one liners and loveable characters. It had the perfect amount of romance and steam 🔥 I really loved Alexandria’s writing and the story that she has written.

I would absolutely recommend this book.

However, I decided to give this book a chance one rainy weekend and I thought it was a lovely read. Yes the token faux relationship has been written a lot of times but the author did manage to capture this well and you felt like you were on side with the two main characters. Certainly worth a read.
