Best film for a long time
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 26 June 2018Verified Purchase
I had previously thought that Tom Hardy was a rather typecast actor, but not after watching this. He is superb as Heathcliff and I liked him enormously in this part which he played brilliantly. I also loved Charlotte Riley who was also well cast and played her part to perfection. Andrew Lincoln was also well cast as the sickly Edgar Linton, he's very like the also super sickly Robson Green. It's the first time I've seen this film and I won't be reading the book as I've noticed how dissatisfied it makes people when they make comparisons. I'd thoroughly recommend this film to anyone, it's the best thing I've watched for ages.

Surprisingly good

4+ for this version of Wuthering Heights (only one I've seen so far, but still)
Tom Hardy makes an excellent and haunting Heatcliff and (his irl wife since 2014) Charlotte Riley does a wonderful job as the beautiful hot-head Cathy.
This was over my expectations
And in this case I saw the movie before reading the book, which I immediately ordered afterwards. I'll be seeing this move many times that's for sure.
It's far more than a love story if anyone expects only that and comes in as green as me on this. But don't hesitate, buy it
I recommend it very very much.
Saw some reviews on irritation over how Hardy played his scenea while crying, I beg to differ in those opinions, I think that added so much to the Heatcliff character and made me feel sympathy for him even if he was kinda ruthless at times.
Kate Bush got it.

I've come home. I'm so cold
Let me in-a-your window"

Can't argue a classic can ya

Wuthering Heights - ITV's Second Adaptation, Definitely Worth Watching
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 November 2015Verified Purchase
This is the second adaptation of Wuthering Heights that I own; and the second that has been made by ITV. It took me a while to get to grips with this adaptation of my favourite book. I've watched it a few times now and I really like it. Both Tom Hardy (Heathcliff) and Andrew Lincoln (Edgar) are inspired casting choices, for the two principal male roles. Indeed, I found it refreshing to see Edgar Linton being portrayed with even just a little more backbone than usual - even though this isn't in the original source text. Tom Hardy captures Heathcliff's brooding and at times, menacing personality with astounding accuracy; this truly lends the whole adaptation a real degree of psychological tension. By contrast, Charlotte Riley's reading of Cathy's character is a bit underwhelming, - until you get to the "mad scenes" - where Ms. Riley does a sterling job. Definitely worth watching

Top Notch Adaptation - Blu Ray Review
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 March 2014Verified Purchase
I wonder if in 20 to 30 years we will look back and see Tom Hardy as one of our greatest British actors. A blinding performance as Bane in the last Batman, perfect as the Nemesis in Star Trek Nemesis and several others.
In this he towers as Heathcliff both as the romantic lead and the vengeful outcast.
On Blu Ray the stunning scenery is second to none and sparkles out of the screen. Where I knocked a mark off were one or two night indoor scenes where someone doing the transfer has whacked up the brightness and you get some speckles that after such clear stunning early shots REALLY stand out. That is really poor of ITV to be blunt.
Otherwise, apart from that little gripe, this is an ITV drama that really stands up to the BBC adaptations of, say, Austen classics over the years.

Best version I've seen
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 January 2019Verified Purchase
Thought they would never get Wuthering Heights right as it is such a difficult book to portray on film . This version is brilliant. I first read the book at 15 - it's dark and about obsession/selfishness... not romance. Still pick up now I'm in my Seventies! Well done to everybody, especially Tom and Charlotte.
