I have a 4g wifi router which does not have any ethernet connection. would this item work only on wifi?

I would say no as it connects to the router via the Ethernet connector to relieve the wireless workload from your router. If you connect it wirelessly it would still be a drain on the wireless network.

Hi, unfortunately not. The hue smart bridge requires an Ethernet connection to a wireless router. An alternative would be something like the Amazon echo Plus (2nd Generation) that connects via wifi to your router which allows you to control Philips Hue lights. I’m not sure if you get the full range of control that you would get without the Philips app though.
