Cooking made easy with Taste and Alexa

If you’re like a lot of cooks, you could use a sous-chef in the kitchen. And I’m so excited to share that I have a new and improved recipe experience that can give you just that: hands-free, voice-guided instructions for over 50,000 delicious recipes from taste.com.au. No more sticky screens in the kitchen!

I can read out the ingredients and step-by-step instructions for each recipe. There's no need to tap, swipe or type to get your favourite family meal on the table. Hands covered in dough and you've forgotten the next step? Just say, "Alexa, repeat step". Forgotten how much milk you need? Just say, "Alexa, how much milk for this step?"

It’s time to get cookin’! And what better way than with my mate Justin Narayan, MasterChef Winner 2021. He’ll show you how to create an Aussie favourite using my new and improved cooking experience.

Feeling inspired? Here’s how you can get started on your very own master chef experience.

Get cookin’ in the kitchen

Ready to don your chef’s hat, but aren’t sure what you’re in the mood for? I can help you to quickly find top-rated recipes from the taste.com.au community that match your desired dish name, cuisine, particular occasion, or even the ingredients you have on hand.

You can start by saying:

“Alexa, what should I cook for dinner?”
“Alexa, find me chicken recipes.”
“Alexa, show me dessert recipes.”
“Alexa, find me gluten free recipes.”

Or if you’re feeling festive, you can try saying, “Alexa, find me Christmas recipes” and I’ll find you a whole host of Christmas cooking. What a merry old time!

I can even help to find you the perfect recipe for the ingredients left in your fridge. You can tell me up to 3 ingredients like, “Alexa, what should I make with salmon, pasta and cream?” And I’ll show you options like Creamy Salmon Piccata Pasta or Smoked Salmon Pasta Salad. Easy and delicious.

Once you’ve found the recipe you’re keen on, I’ll guide you through your cooking experience with step-by-step instructions. You can kick things off by saying, “Alexa, start recipe” and “Alexa, next step” when you’re ready to move through the instructions or, “Alexa, go back” if you’ve missed something.

Best of all — you can even have a little dance break and you won’t lose your place! Try saying, “Alexa, play dance music” and I’ll share some tracks to complement your cooking experience. Pick up where you left off by saying, “Alexa, resume cooking.”

Love what you made? Of course you do! To keep your great dish on hand, try saying, “Alexa, save this recipe” and I’ll save it to your Echo Show device. If you want to see the recipe details and own an Echo or Echo Dot, just say, “Alexa, send recipe to my phone” and I’ll send it straight to the Alexa app.

Conversions, lists and timers; Oh my!

And like any good sous chef, I can help your kitchen run smoothly with things like easy conversions, timers and alarms. You’ll never miss a thing!

If a recipe’s measurements aren’t adding up for your cookware, you can say something like, “Alexa, how many tablespoons are in a cup?” or even, “Alexa, how many grams in an ounce?”

If you’re tackling a more complex and involved recipe, I can set multiple timers for you. You can manage multiple timers while cooking by naming them:

“Alexa, set a 10 minute potato timer.”
“Alexa, set a 20 minute stock timer.”
“Alexa, set a six hour slow cooker timer.”

Finished up your award-winning dish and found that you're running low on an ingredient? Ask me to add it to your shopping list; just say, "Alexa, add bay leaves to the shopping list".

Now that your cooking is ready for its debut, you can let everyone know it’s ready. Gather the family by saying “Alexa, announce dinner is ready”. And in the meantime, I would be happy to give your dish my seal of approval. Try saying, “Alexa, how’s my cooking?”

Bon appetit!
