I find Joy Ellis books very hard to put down. She's a writer who clearly defines her characters, the Fenlands and what is going to happen or has happened. She never loses sight of the Fens, so you are transported to a very different part of England, one that is wide and open and totally captivating. Once you have read the first book, and yes, it's best to start at the beginning, you won't be able to stop until you are, like the rest of us, begging for the next one.
