The Riftwar saga, of which Magician is the first book, is probably one of the best pieces of fantasy ever written. I read it as a teen and have re-read my copy several times over the (many) years which have passed!
The book is well written, is intricate and has deeply developed characters which have great arcs throughout the saga.
I'd definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoyed the Lord of the Rings.
