Come As You Are: The story of Nirvana

$3.99
Seattle band Nirvana exploded onto the music scene in 1991, with the release of their landmark album Nevermind. Fronted by charismatic lead singer Kurt Cobain, backed by Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic, their thunderous sound and themes of social alienation came to define the decade.
Music journalist Michael Azerrad had unique access to the band and spent many months interviewing each member at length, as well as their friends, relatives and associates. The story of Nirvana is one of the most dramatic in rock history. In only three years they came to dominate the music scene and were lauded as the voice of emerging Generation X. But the price of such sudden and huge success was high.
Azerrad tracks Nirvana’s rise, from backwoods Aberdeen to global stardom. He tells the truth about Cobain’s drug use, and his intense relationship with wife Courtney Love, a powerful personality and singer with her own band. Both had survived fractured families and now, hounded by press and fans alike, their every move was watched and judged. In 1994 Cobain took his own life.
In the years since this tragedy Come as You Are has come to be seen as the definitive biography of Nirvana. Originally published six months prior to Cobain’s death, Azerrad added a poignant chapter detailing the final year of his life, and the spiral of pain, pressure and addiction which led to his suicide.
Nirvana remain one of the most important and influential rock bands of the 20th century. Nevermind has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling albums of all time.

The definitive chronicle of underground music in the 1980s tells the stories of Black Flag, Sonic Youth, The Replacements, and other seminal bands whose DIY revolution changed American music forever.
Our Band Could Be Your Life is the never-before-told story of the musical revolution that happened right under the nose of the Reagan Eighties -- when a small but sprawling network of bands, labels, fanzines, radio stations, and other subversives re-energized American rock with punk's do-it-yourself credo and created music that was deeply personal, often brilliant, always challenging, and immensely influential. This sweeping chronicle of music, politics, drugs, fear, loathing, and faith is an indie rock classic in its own right.
