About Michael Tavon
Michael Tavon is a novelist, poet, and recording artist. He is devoted to helping his generation cope with sadness and find inner peace through his writing. His poetry mainly focuses on the stages of young adult life from depression, finding love, nature, and social issues. Tavon sets himself apart from most modern poets with his thought-provoking prose and subject matter about the human race. His style of writing is reminiscent of Langston Hughes and Nikki Giovanni while maintaining a modern appeal. His vision is to help his peers see that there is always room for growth as you have hope. He follows this agenda through his writing by always showing growth as a writer and a person through his publications.
Tavon was born and raised in Saint Petersburg, Florida. After falling in love with fellow writer Moonsoulchid, in 2018, They both currently reside in Connecticut. Tavon's most notable works are Don’t Wait Til I Die To Love Me and Songs for Each Mood.

"From the first poem to the last, 'Dreaming in a Perfect World' did it again. It made me emotional, uncomfortable in a good way, because it helped me to learn and grow in love and understanding.
Michael Tavon does not shy away from difficult topics - at all. The poems often are raw and gritty, showing life with all of it's facets, the good and the bad. They are highly personal, making them more real somehow. That he scanned the dreams he wrote down and added those adds to the realness. I wanted to take my time reading, but in the end I couldn't make myself putting his work away. The time will go to revisiting it all." - Jantine, Goodreads reviewer
"This is the first of Michael Tavon’s work that I’ve engaged with and I was very pleased with the collection. So much so, I almost ate it all up in one day but slowed myself down to savor it and allow the pieces to flow through me. Almost like a down-home plate of soul food, it needed its own time and space.
Dreaming In A Perfect World was a thoughtful and gripping mix of poems and dreams that included varying themes from hope, despair, and hurt to forgiveness, joy and healing. And while some of the collection dealt with triggering issues surrounding sexual abuse, mental illness and violence, I do believe overall that the collection has a bit of something for everyone. I especially enjoyed, “Black women Deserve Rest Too,” “Ain’t Nothing Sweet About This,” and “Floating Away” all of which spoke clearly to my own personal experiences.
I really like the cover art! As well, I thought it brave to share raw dreams in the manner in which he did, in his own handwriting. I don’t know how many times I’ve had to quickly jot down a dream and bypass all rules of order to get the content out of my head and onto something." - Misse Jones, Goodreads
Black women Deserve Rest Too
Black women deserve a break from the iron suit. When are they allowed to be soft and vulnerable? They fight every day to protect the people they love, but who shows up for them when they feel outnumbered? We praise black women for being strong, yet neglect they need protection too. Their shoulders often carry more tension than bricks after a long day of carrying everyone’s burdens. Sometimes they wanna take off their cool. Be free, unguarded. Black women deserve rest too. I’ve peered into the restless eyes of my mother, aunts, sisters, cousins, friends, strangers, and knew their ‘tired’ was different from mine. They shouldn’t have to put up a wall to be respected. They shouldn’t have to go through hell to be loved. They deserve to be soft without feeling guilty.
