How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsAnother terrific Reilly read.
Reviewed in Australia on 19 June 2016
Not surprisingly, with Reilly at the helm, this was a cracking good read.
Tons of action, some great lateral thinking by Scarecrow against a very unexpected foe.
I now remember why I re-read a Matthew Reilly book when I need something unusual with the tension and suspense ratcheted up to extreme levels.
Better than a gym visit for a cardio workout and much more satisfying.
I'm off to re-read Seven Ancient Wonders. I need more exercise!

Kurz und unspektakulär, viel Schiesserei aber keine packende Geschichte. Kann ich leider nicht weiter empfehlen, obwohl die anderen Bücher die ich schon gelesen habe viel viel besser waren.

Poor story and poor premise. The usual frantic Reilly style - i.e. thinking of the film screenplay rights as he types.

2.0 out of 5 stars This is not a book, it is a short story

Let me start by saying that I usually love this author’s work and was excited to see a book of his I hadn’t yet read. However, it turned out that this wasn’t really a book at all - it was a short story at best. The price is what I would expect to pay for a full novel and I feel that amazon was purposely vague in its description. The story was fun but in summary, the ‘book’ was not worth the cost.

Star value of 2* is a reflection of Amazon’s value for money and misdirection; not a reflection of Matthew Reilly’s writing.

2.0 out of 5 stars Price per page isn't worth $7

I give it only 2-stars not for the story (which is 5) but for the price per page. I get only a 1/4 of a book then this book gets only 1/3 of a rating

First off let me say that Reilly is one of my favorite writers and this book IS up to his standards for action and plot twist (notice that I didn't use the plural twists).

I was extremely disappointed to receive the book and thought something must be damaged because I only got 1/4 of the book book I usually expect. It's only a 100 pages long!

If I'm paying the full rate of $7, I'm expecting a story that will take me more time to read than this review!

If you read in the intro (and you certainly will because you'll have plenty of time), you find that that this book was a challenge to authors to entice Australian non-readers to get interested in reading reading by making it short and GAVE IT AWAY FOR FREE!

I'd be very happy to get this book for free. I'd even be happy to get it at 1/4 the usual price but come on -- Full price for something that's this short? There should be a BIG BOLD disclaimer on the Amazon about the unusual length of this one.

For the initial audience this was not a bad story but Matthew Reilly should stick to long novels with Scarecrow as the lead! This read like a filler just to line his pockets with some chump change!

2.0 out of 5 stars Where's the rest of my $6.99 book?
Reviewed in the United States on 8 December 2010

I have not read the story yet, and will soon, I expect...I have enjoyed all of the other Reilly books I have read. However, I'm rather disgusted with the sleight of hand being performed here. When I pay $7.00 for a paperback, I expect a full novel, not a short story. I suppose this is a case of "let the buyer beware".

If you read the product description, it says "160 pages"...the story is actually about 123 pages (including the blank pages and full page pictures and chapter headings). I estimate about 90 pages of actual reading material plus the sneak peak at the next (hopefully full length) Scarecrow story. The product description also shows the dimensions of the book, and indicates .2" thickness. Okay, show of hands...how many of us look at the number of pages and/or dimensions of the book when making the purchase online?

Bottom line - regardless of the relative merit of the story, the product presentation is misleading. While Amazon never describes the book as a novel, neither do they bother to mention that it is a stand-alone short story. I do not feel I received full value for the price I paid, and it may impact my purchasing habits on this site.

Short book. I can see why it was released for free in Australia! I wouldn't spend the money on this one. Borrow it, yes, buy it no.

Too far fetched and unbelievable. Reilly needs a reality check and start to add some realistic story lines to his ever expanding library of ridiculous plots.
