I read The River God quite a long time ago, following on with The Seventh Scroll and then through the years. I have enjoyed every one of Wilbur’s books, but the Egyptian series is something special! Thank you for brining some further enjoyment into my life.
I hovered between a 3 and 4 for this book. Being honest, I like least the Egyptian stories and co authorships does raise concerns sometimes. However the balance of a master story weaver and a highly proficient action adventure author allayed those concerns.
At times this story did feel like a bit of a part 1 scene setter but it moves along nicely if a little formulaic. I enjoyed it rather than devoured it as I would with previous novels and am looking forward to the next installment but that, when it arrives wont necessarily hit the top of the pile straight away.
Slow start which is unusual in Wilbur smith books and I have read 99% of them! But ended up very good I think when taita came into it. Will be looking next year for the follow up Give it a go his books are always great and this is no exception
This is a wonderful addition to the Egyptian books by the late, great Eibur Smith. 4 stars as it isn't all W.S. I can feel the difference in the characters. But all good things do come to an end. R.I.P. Mr. Smith. Taita awaits your stories.
