For decades now I've loved The Broons - especially as an only child. They undoubtedly fuelled my fantasies of how real large families behaved. Generations of the same family all getting along reasonably well, humorous storylines that never stray too far from reality - and above all great characterisations.

Well, The Broons isn't quite 'reality' - it's reality with the bad bits taken out so there's no ageing, no serious illness, no death, no pandemics. These Sunday Post characters have remained consistent through the years and even the way the characters are drawn has changed little since I first discovered 'Scotland's Happy Family' as a child in the 1960s. If you've not discovered The Broons yet, give this annual a go - especially at the bargain post Christmas price. You might find yourself hooked.

I used to get the Broons and Oor Wullie sent down every year at Christmas, sadly this year had to buy my own - but still worth it!
Stories are still great (I always read them through as soon as the arrive!), not keen on some of the newer artwork, though.
