Lack of full proof causes criminals to wriggle free - especially embarrassing when celebrities are involved and the media so frenzied. L.A.'s Priority Murder Squad badly needs a shake-up. Enter drawling Brenda Johnson as its new head, to ensure there is always enough evidence to convict. Her pushiness alienates the Department and resentment grows - until they see her interrogations. These are her speciality - killers devastatingly well and truly netted....
Kyra Sedgwick as Brenda makes the most of her quirky role so full of contradictions. Sharp tongue, sweet tooth. Firm sense of direction at work, less so away from it - especially when driving. At times genuinely scatterbrained but at others this a ploy to reel in the suspects.
13 episodes. 13 intriguing cases. Those interrogations usually the highlight (NOT needing the accompanying music that so distracts). Not everything works (the comedy sometimes forced and the heroine occasionally irritating), but there is much to please. Particularly enjoyed was the season's finale. Influential enemies have ganged up to engineer Brenda's departure. Grudgingly they will settle for a grovelling apology. What happens next? Something to treasure.
I couldn’t warm to the lead character. I only started watching it after finding out it was a programme that was followed by Major Crimes which I love. The stories are good and easy to follow and the other police people are easy to warm to.
This show is fantastically entertaining. There are two main reasons for this - both the ensemble cast and the writing are great. The actors deliver the delightfully snappy dialogue in a way which must bring joy to the scriptwriters and makes the most of the quirky situations. The development of a disfunctional group of colleagues into a close and effective team is both believable and fun. OK the desire of the criminals of LA to spill the beans at the drop of a hat seems unlikely but then not all criminals are criminal masterminds and Deputy Chief Johnson must come as a surprise to them. The actors are all great but the two most cynical members of the squad are my favourites- I just can't decide whether I love Lt Flynn or Lt Prevenza more. They are a great double-act.
This series definitely grows on you! I love Kyra Sedgwick depiction of tough detective Brenda Johnson who cares more about getting justice than playing the political boys club game. Very enjoyable and a must watch
We were looking for something different and found it with this little gem. It is very different from the normal police series and we will definitely be watching the remainder of the series. Well worth the (modest) cost and I would recommend it to everyone.
This is absolutely the best cop show around at the moment. A great script, wonderful characters, and the acting - wow, it blows you away completely. If you add to the mix some very cleverly writen plots you cannot ask much more from a detective series. I recommend this to everyone who likes an intelligent, funny (extremely funny at times) DVD to be enjoyed time and time again. And Kyro Sedgwick is of course sensationall...
