The product page contains a caution that this bag of toys is not suitable for children less than three years old. I suppose it's better to be a little over-cautious than the reverse, but I am not having any second thoughts about buying them (at his mother's request) for my younger grandson who will not reach 3 until next May. The toys are far too big for an adult to swallow, for instance, let alone a toddler or infant, supposing that was the thought behind the recommended age-barrier.
The illustration provided is accurate, showing the six different animals inhabiting the clear polythene bag. The price I am currently seeing is very reasonable too, and the animals would have had to be a lot dearer for me to find that outweighing their educational and entertainment value for tots. A frequent criticism in reviews I have read is that it is quite easy to spot the join where the heads have been attached to the bodies. It is completely proper to point this out in a review, but like several other reviewers I don't find this a very serious fault. That's provided, of course that the separate sections don't, er, separate too easily under the usual kind of treatment that infants mete out to their toys.
Anyway, I have taken the risk such as it is, and I think it quite reasonable to recommend that you do the same if you feel so inclined.
Although I though the postage was a bit steep, I bought this as a bath toys for two boys (aged 3 and 5). I was surprised how large they were; each about 15cm long. This makes them excellent for little hands. Purists would complain that this means the scale is all wrong, since the Blue Whale is apparently the same size as a Cuttlefish.
The selection of animals is completely random, except for the fact that they all live in the sea (dolphin, crab, walrus), but this does mean its good fun to play with. The detail in the painting is pretty lifelike and there are no sharp edges or bits which could be pulled off. However, whilst being pretty tough I doubt that they would stand up to much chewing. Tails, tenticles and flippers are designed to be bitten off so I wouldn't buy this for a child that was teething or given to biting toys.
Most of the figures are solid plastic, so they can't get mould inside them like most other bath toys. A few of them have squeekers in (whale, dolphin, killer whale) which was a HUGE hit with the kids and is not mentioned on any of the packaging. The squeekers do allow water to remain in the figures, so they will go mouldy eventually.
This is a small gripe. My two boys love them. Now all we need is a diver ... apparently.
for the price, the quality of animals are pretty impressive. what surprises me the most is the size of each animal. they’re HUGE, and that’s a good thing (see video as my 18 months babe played with them). my babe loves them and insists to bring some to bed with him, so it’s all worth it! thank you.
Bought for a shark themed birthday celebration as a needed something authentic for the cake topper. Shark enthusiast enjoyed the party, cake and the fact he was left with his favourite sea creatures to play with.
The bugs are a good size. I would have liked to have seen a ladybird and bee in here rather than 4 types of beetle but oh well. There was also a butterfly, grass hopper, praying mantis, ant, fly and cockroach. My daughter likes them that's what matters
Bought for my 4 year old son who loves sharks. They are a good size and he has great fun with them in the bath. Took off a star because only one shark has his mouth open. Kids love to play with the mouth to make them 'chomp' things..so it's a shame they didn't do it for the others too.
