5.0 out of 5 starsA slow burning page turner
Reviewed in Australia on 9 November 2021
Possibly my favourite from the first 5 books. The tension builds slowly and intensely along with the weather. Items and events are described with a level of detail that lets you imagine the scene in great detail without becoming dull. Not ‘high literature’, but nonetheless a really compelling and enjoyable story.

3.0 out of 5 starsSlow with little action
Reviewed in Australia on 23 May 2022
Too long and too slow. Little, but predictable action. The ending was well done; however the story concludes somewhat disappointing.

1.0 out of 5 stars Ridiculous

I started off a fan of the Reacher novels. The problem is the more you read the more ridiculous the scenarios he finds himself in become. This book was awful. The whole premise really makes no sense. The female protagonist's motivation makes no sense. Of course you would drive around trying to find a random stranger to kill your husband instead of just running away. In fact the amount of ludicrous things that happen in this book under the guise of people being clever is plain annoying. The final part with Reacher figuring out exactly the right motel to find the kidnapped girl is particularly painful.

I could go on and on but instead I'll just advise giving it a miss.

1.0 out of 5 stars A poor novel

This has to be one of the worst books I have read. The narrative is utterly ludicrous and the twists and turns quite unbelievable, as are many of the characters. I've read some good, if perpetually brutal, novels by Child, but this is just terrible. Jack Reacher let loose in nonesense land!

Surprisingly long winded and boring book . Not much action and a lot of naval gazing . Having seen the jack reacher films i thought i was in for a good action packed book . I was wrong . Bronk .

Not for me this. Lone guy takes on the bad guys and kills them, cos ordinary justice isn't vindictive enough.
