Mr Ed
5.0 out of 5 starsA slow burning page turner
Reviewed in Australia on 9 November 2021
Possibly my favourite from the first 5 books. The tension builds slowly and intensely along with the weather. Items and events are described with a level of detail that lets you imagine the scene in great detail without becoming dull. Not ‘high literature’, but nonetheless a really compelling and enjoyable story.

3.0 out of 5 starsSlow with little action
Reviewed in Australia on 23 May 2022
Too long and too slow. Little, but predictable action. The ending was well done; however the story concludes somewhat disappointing.

2.0 out of 5 stars So slow it kept sending me to sleep

I will usually push on and finish a book but with this one I gave up at 28%. I was so fed up with the narrative repeating the same story of what might happen to Carmen that it did keep sending me to sleep. Having got to the end of a chapter I just thought why am I wasting my time on this and gave up almost unheard of. I have read two other Jack Reacher books but this one just didn't do it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poorest book to date

Book 5 and the poorest to date - very thin unbelievable plotline combined with Reacher's clairvoyance made it a bit of a slog to get through unlike the previous books in the series.

Far too much padding
This is not good story telling as it slows the pace of the book right down, particularly as it is supposed to be reaching its climax. It got to the stage where I was SPEED READING whole pages just to reach the next piece of relevant information, who cares if Ellies shorts were the right way round and one can usually assume that if she put on a T shirt she would put her arms through the sleeves. Just far far too much irrelevant rubbish , as is his want, it spoils what should be a good fast paced book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Far fetched conclusions

Bit far fetched on some of the things he worked out. Example. Guy got killed and his body was put inbetween rocks . Police looked 200 yards radius around his abandoned car but found nothing. Reacher said to look along the same road but about one and a half milrs north and look inbetween rocks. And the police found it. The far fetching aspects near the end spoilt it for me.

Not the usual Reacher from start to finish fast pace. First half of book not to my taste, does pick up second half, but not a classic Reacher.

2.0 out of 5 stars One to avoid

I have read quite a few Jack Reacher books and this is by far the weakest. Please don't misunderstand me, I think the series are brilliant. Echo Burning lacks the high quality of storyline that one has come to expect of Lee Child. The plot is absurdly weak, the story littered with coincidence and the heroine completely unbelievable. Pass over this one, the next is better.

2.0 out of 5 stars Bored..blah blah

So over descriptive for the first 50% it's like he thinks no-one can think for themselves what the area looks like we have all watched American films. Book could have been half the length. The sentence where he described the little girl reminded him of himself made me laugh out loud! Last book from this author for me...

I have been charitable with 2 stars. If you have read other Reacher books, this one will seem repetitive and overly predictable. Pace is an issue throughout.
