4.0 out of 5 starsFive stars - except for the ending.
Reviewed in Australia on 24 July 2020
I did not like the ending. It was wrong on multiple levels. It's a surprise ending, of sorts, I didn't see coming. Some people will like it. Up until the last chapter, this was Reacher at his best. A little more introspective than usual, which I liked. And the descriptions of the cold, the ice and snow and the limitations on movement and comfort imposed by the extreme weather were brilliant. I read a lot of Nordic noir, and none of those books have chilled me to the bone like this. Brilliant writing but ultimately disappointing.

3.0 out of 5 starsNot vintage Reacher

Bit drawn out. Not like the early Jack Reacher novels. Not sure what the 61 hours was all about. The best Reacher stories were those when he was on the move and left you wondering what would come next. This story was a somewhat complicated with too many sub-plots. Not a real page turner.

4.0 out of 5 stars Jack Reacher goes all out against the bad guys!

I am gradually working my way through all the Jack Reacher books and this one was a good one - that's for damn sure! He is up against some real bad guys, both local and international. There are bikers, meth labs, intrigue - it has it all. There is also the countdown to zero hour - a great listen. I find Jack just gets better the more you read.

Another really really enjoyable read from Lee Child's. Such a great writer. Jack Reacher is so awesome character. Still so annoyed that they casted friggin Tom friggin Cruise as Jack Reacher in the movie. Grrrr.

I've read almost all of the Reacher novels. I think that most are great but there a couple that I didn't find that engrossing. This one falls into the second category. I can't say too much more without a spoiler alert

Is the book "61 Hours" only 495 pages long or have I been short changed by Amazon? The book end with Reacher returning to the 7 bikers and then....... zip!

What an adventure, as it counts down you have to wonder exactly what it is at the end of it.

Jack finds himself in a new town in intense cold. He makes himself invaluable to the local police force, finds himself in the middle of a drug war and, finally, kills the baddies. Oh, and he has a long-distance romance with a female military police officer. Sound familiar?
