Matthew Reilly's first and finest work - Contest is a brilliant thrill ride that should not be missed

The first of Matthew Reilly's books - and in my opinion, still his best. This is the story of a ER Dr who is taken to be part of an intergalactic contest to the death. Only the Dr has no idea and he has an added incentive that the other contestants don't.
This story is a continuous thrill ride that you just can't put down - like all of Matthew Reilly's books.
This book is absolutely brilliant, and you will be captivated right up to the final pages.
This is Matthew Reilly at his best - and should not be missed by anyone who loves Sci-Fi or Action novels.

This was a pretty interesting book. I liked the Sci-Fi story and the characters. There is not as much NONSTOP action in this book as with Mr. Reilly's others that I've read so far! Not my fav, but, I do recommend it!

Pros:
Fast paced
Action packed
Great monsters.
Bellos (loved this character and i thought his introduction was done particularly well to set him up for the rest of the story).
The science behind some of the protagonist's actions were well researched.

Cons:
At times, dialogue between a few characters felt forced//unrealistic.
A few plotholes.
At times there were monsters introduced as extraordinarily dangerous or evil and almost un-killable yet were killed off fairly cheaply.

Final thought:
An excellent book to tie you over in between other epic sized novels. I enjoyed the story and while it's no 'Picture of Dorian Grey', not everyone will be in the mood to read highly complex and epic literary pieces and sometimes we just want our junk food because it's easy and satisfying. M.Reilly, you have a new fan.
