To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
Ok, so there's no way this is a 'one-star' season, but the average score needs bringing down a bit. This season has its moments, plenty infact, but surely long-term fans of the show can see that this season isn't worthy of being rated on the same level as some (most?) of the earlier episodes.
Also, all this 'improvised' cr*p. I'm sorry, but they REALLY market that & it's misleading. I appreciate that much of it is improvised, but it's waaaay more structured than they let on. The show is FAR too intricate to organically fall into place through what is ultimately chance or intuition. Sorry, no way... I could cite dozens of examples but, well I can't be bothered to write them and i'm sure you can't be bothered to read them. Plus, well, if you know the show & you're not a moron then you'll see that anyway.
I love this show but there have always been aspects of it that bug me. The over the top goofiness (mostly larry running away from things in a plain awkward 'slapstick' style wearing a stupid expression. Prime example being the season four closer when he runs from the handbag thief), the back-slapping, larry's over-inflated ego, jeff's 'isms' ('big bowl of...' - sorry jeff, you can keep saying it but it won't catch on..because it's not funny.) & many, many more. However, these points aside, I love the programme, I love larry, jeff, all of them, I just think they're getting lazy & that's because EVERYONE raves about the damn programme, it seems to be critic-proof & it's frustrating.
I'm only critical because i'm so fond of it. This is generally good stuff, it's just not as inspired as previous seasons & it's just not as inventive..or funny...
Cheryl needs to come back. Larry was at his best when he was hen-pecked. Now he's dating all the time it's really just him acting smooth and 'irresistable' (read: mostly deluded) & whilst there have been some fantastic moments throughout his time away from Cheryl, Lary hasn't been as much of a 'victim'...& that's when I like the programme best, when Larry's getting grief unjustly. Never thought i'd miss her character as much, but she curbed larry's ego & now he's off the leash, well, he's just acting like a pr*ck more often basically! Harder to empathise with I guess.
8/10 - prettaaaayy, prettaaaay stale...but still essential viewing.
