I'm a fan of Daniel Craig, and this was OK. My Mom liked it more than me. I enjoy movies from anytime but I just don't like the style of this movie and also I started to get a bit bored with it. Its a thinking, witty mystery, not something with a lot of action. Another thing is I didn't particularly enjoy any of the characters. It just wasn't for me.

Dark and brooding,. Not the Daniel Craig of the James Bond series but a true jobbing actor filling the part and sharing the load with an impressive cast. A good enough story to keep you involved and clear characters that you can feel you know. But do you? That's the mystery.

There aren't very many British dramas that I really don't like, but this is one of them. Some people might enjoy watching a dark, disturbing story, but I don't. Therefore, the acting, directing and modern effects were secondary in consideration for me, as the story line was too steeped in evil. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone I know.

I was expecting more. Some of the reviews stated it was "edgy and dark". I disagree completely. Perhaps it is because it is from the 90's. When you compare it to today's edgy crime dramas it comes up lifeless; add to that, flat, uninspiring performances; that equals, dud. I regret investing my cash into a movie I feel asleep through.

An engrossing police drama with many twists and turns. Excellent casting. Much better than the PBS Mystery Program of the same film.. In the PBS version many scenes were shortened, and several were removed entirely. This DVD version provides much greater detail, making for a better story.

Minette Walters' sensational first novel made her an instant star in the mystery world, and this 3-hour 1998 TV adaptation is very faithful to the original book. Three women in a remote country house are suspected when the decomposing body of a man is found in the old ice house on their property, and it's up to the local police chief (Corin Redgrave) and his enthusiastic sergeant (a very young Daniel Craig) to solve the case. The writing, direction, and acting are first-rate, and Penny Downie (who played Adam Dalgliesh's assistant, Kate Miskin, in the BBC adaptations of the P. D. James novels) is a particular standout as the mysterious lady who owns the house. Great atmosphere and an intelligent story--what more could you want? Highly recommended.

PS--You should also read the original novel, and all of Minette Walters's wonderful suspense novels. She's one of the best writers around.
