A really good read. Not a long book, so would be good for reading in bed too. I really enjoyed the outcome. I confess to almost having the outcome figured out but got the wrong person.

3.0 out of 5 starsA reasonable read.
Reviewed in Australia on 30 May 2020
This book I found to be a reasonable read but it did not grab my attention and refuse to let go. The plot line of young hopefuls disappearing from a dance academy, to be lured to the bright lights, provided a quite solid foundation. What was disappointing was the characterization that was rather undeveloped. An exploration of motive would have been helpful. I hope the others I'd previously purchased (on the basis of my reading of "Bring Them Home", and they were inexpensive at the time) improve in the above mentioned departments.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed with Books 1 & 2

Have read D S Butlers books and really enjoyed them however the Jack Mackinnon books 1 & 2 were a disappointment.Main character not “strong” enough to warrant name in title .
Too many minor characters easy to get lost in the story line .

I have read the first book in the next series and enjoyed it so thought I'd try the Jack MacKinnon books
This one was poorly written and, although I read to the end because I hate leaving a book, it seemed very amateurish.

These are nice characters, but I felt the story was quite predictable. I hope the next books in the series get better.

I enjoyed parts of this book and I kept thinking that it was building up to something. In that sense, it held my interest. However, the ending felt very sudden and anti-climactic. It felt as if the author had been told she must finish the book quickly and simply scribbled out an ending as fast as possible. We learn nothing about the motivations of the 'bad' guy or the background to his actions. I found it deeply unsatisfactory.

Writing is steady but uninspired and the plot is too predictable with personal subplot not interesting enough to keep attention.

Started off well but didn’t really keep up the suspense , very-predictable seemed to quick to wrap up the plot , needed a bit more depth to characters. Sorry but not one I couldn’t put down .
Will try next in series to see if better.☹️
