A really good read. Not a long book, so would be good for reading in bed too. I really enjoyed the outcome. I confess to almost having the outcome figured out but got the wrong person.

3.0 out of 5 starsA reasonable read.

This book I found to be a reasonable read but it did not grab my attention and refuse to let go. The plot line of young hopefuls disappearing from a dance academy, to be lured to the bright lights, provided a quite solid foundation. What was disappointing was the characterization that was rather undeveloped. An exploration of motive would have been helpful. I hope the others I'd previously purchased (on the basis of my reading of "Bring Them Home", and they were inexpensive at the time) improve in the above mentioned departments.

It’s a very nice change these days to find a new author who can build suspense without adding unnecessarily gross details. Looking forward to seeing how the characters develop in the next books.

A bit too much for me in the end. However the story never gets boring and is well, written. Mmm

4.0 out of 5 stars Good first book, easy read

Having read her Karen Hart books thought I'd try these. Reading a book a day in lockdown. Was a bit concerned to read some poor reviews but thought I'd try it. I enjoyed it, it was a good read. But an easy read, lacking in depth but decent story, kept me gripped. Probably as a first novel it was an easy read. I have just started the second in the series and it is much more in depth. Looking forward to working my way through them.

If several girls from the dance academy had already gone missing how come the police had not looked into it already?

4.0 out of 5 stars good prequel

This is a prequel to a series I haven't yet read. It is a shortish story but seems to nicely develop the characters of DS Jack MacKinnon and DC Nick Collins. The story itself centres on the disappearance of Anya Blonski who is a student at the Star academy, which is owned by the frosty Cleeves family. Upon closer inspection Collins and MacKinnon discover she isn't the first student from the academy to disappear without trace. This story does lack some depth but I think this is due to the fact that it is mainly serving as an introduction to the characters and I hope future books will have more complex storylines as it was fairly obvious which direction the plot was taking. It was an enjoyable read and I will be looking for the rest of the series.
