A really good read. Not a long book, so would be good for reading in bed too. I really enjoyed the outcome. I confess to almost having the outcome figured out but got the wrong person.

3.0 out of 5 starsA reasonable read.
Reviewed in Australia on 30 May 2020
This book I found to be a reasonable read but it did not grab my attention and refuse to let go. The plot line of young hopefuls disappearing from a dance academy, to be lured to the bright lights, provided a quite solid foundation. What was disappointing was the characterization that was rather undeveloped. An exploration of motive would have been helpful. I hope the others I'd previously purchased (on the basis of my reading of "Bring Them Home", and they were inexpensive at the time) improve in the above mentioned departments.

Gripping crime drama. The characters appear real because they have faults.
This book would appeal to all those who enjoy good crime writing.

First read of this series but found that the author’s style has continued and again, I found this book to be a very good read and mystery stayed until the very last ... holding one’s attention all the way through ...

I have read other books by this author so thought I try this book. Glad I did as this was a great book to start the series. Straight away I was hooked and could not put it down. Liked how you got to know Jack and Nick. Will be getting other books in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Didn't want to put it down!

I had never read any D.S. Butler books until this one and having seen the cheap Kindle price I decided to give it a try since my main genre of reading is British police/mystery. The story kept me gripped from the first page and I didn't want to put it down, finishing the book in two long sessions, broken only by a compulsory break to work LOL

It is an engrossing read, the plot draws you in and keeps you guessing, the characters are well drawn and the whole thing is well paced, never flags and doesn't bring in a lot of side issues as "padding" ... in short an excellent read, I will certainly be buying the rest of the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favourite author being Peter James

My favourite author being Peter James, i was attracted by the claim that this book would be appreciated by people who enjoy Peter James and his brilliant series of Roy Grace detective novels.

The author writes in a similar short tight chapter format style to Peter James, and began the process of explaining and developing the principal character of DS McKinnon very well.

Readers who enjoy a well written entertaining and engaging police investigation whodunnit, will thoroughly enjoy this first book of a series. As someone who has just discovered this author and her books i will enjoy being able to immediately read the next offering and enjoying a series of her books.
