4.0 out of 5 starsAwesome Crime Series
Reviewed in Australia on 12 June 2018
This book is the first book in the Tracy Crosswhite series. I have read the first three books and really enjoy them. They are also almost always on sale on the Kindle store as well if you want to check them out. This first book follows Detective Tracy Crosswhite whose sister, Sarah went missing when she was eighteen. It destroyed her family and is the reason she became a detective. Now, years later her sister's body is found. The story follows from this discovery as we race to discover what really happened to Sarah.

The main reason I enjoyed this book was because the legal aspects were done really well. I now realise in hindsight that this was because the author has experience in the field and I have to say it really shows. It makes the story feel authentic. The twist is awesome and I did not see it coming and the dialogue, which is my favourite, is snappy and realistic.

3.0 out of 5 starsIrritating

I have to admit I lost patience with this book. It was slow and the jumping back and forth from past to present in each alternate chapter stopped me being able to get into the present day story, leaving me feeling it was never going to 'take off'.
I might go back to it later, but I doubt it, it left me feeling irritated.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable read.

A very easy read. All about the bond between two sisters - one of whom disappears and is presumed dead. The 'killer' eventually is judged and sent for a long spell in jail even without the proof of a body. Won't spoil the story for you as it involves not only emotional but legal attributes which are very riveting. My first experience with this Author, and enjoyed the experience as it turned out to be very readable and believable. The storyline is well told and the editing is excellent - only 6/7 mistakes, not enough to be annoying even.
The Author has a way with words which make them both enjoyable and educational. This book should be put on your to-read list - not earth-shattering or close - but very enjoyable reading.

I've written before that anyone who purchases a book by this author would not be disappointed. I hold that true for this novel. Because the story is a little slow to build, I have dropped my overall rating from 5 to 4.5 stars. The quality that Mr. Dugoni brings to his work is evidenced by the people whom he thanks at the book's end. They are experts in their fields and the reader can sense that Mr. Dugoni has included that detail and support in his books. Very highly recommended.

A gripping book that I could not put down. I was totally absorbed by the unfolding saga, finding myself continuing to think about it when I was forced to stop reading. One criticism is the Americanisms that permeate the book that are sometimes baffling to non-Americans.

The book is all about Tracey getting justice for her sister. The sheriff and others in the town come across as mavericks hiding a big conspiracy. But appearances can be deceiving and in the end the bad guy really is bad. Lovely flashbacks with a younger Tracey and her little sister Sarah.

Going into this book with no expectations I was pleasantly surprised. The characters were very engaging and the story line sharp. After a couple of chapters I could not put it down! Wow, with a real twist in the story line I was holding my breath...can't wait to read more from this author.

The story builds slowly heading to a satisfying conclusion but, don't be complacent, there is a surprising twist in the tail. However, the romance, although nice, was an unnecessary addition
