4.0 out of 5 starsA good read.
Reviewed in Australia on 11 December 2017
This is a very suspenseful read, both educational and intriguing. Haven't read any other novels by Preston and Child, but certainly will be looking out for more by them. I have given 4 stars - maybe 3.5 was all it deserved, but that is not an option. The Authors should look to see if they can improve their grammar and spelling - most noticeably 'shined' instead of 'shone'.
The suspense was real and built as the story progressed, to the last page.
A good read which included information regarding genetics to computer wizardry - not all of it correct however, but interestingly entwined into the plot of this story.

Well-drawn characters in a lack-lustre plot. A comfortable read.

3.0 out of 5 stars I just couldn't get in to it

I really liked the premise of this book and had high hopes going in. However, it turned into a bit of a Hollywood monster movie for the final third which resulted in me losing a little interest.

The writing was good and the science and research sections were interesting a great alternative theory to well-known historical events. But other than this, I just couldn't find myself relating to the characters that well and I sometimes found it a little laborious to continue reading.

If the blurb intrigues you, do go ahead as it will likely be your sort of thing (hence the great reviews.)

Interesting concept and I like the setting a lot, but I have found that it's not as gripping as I expected.

Not so good, disappointed that it was suggested based on previous books I had read. I will try another one by this other thou.

3.0 out of 5 stars pas le meilleur

Ce livre est le premier des aventures le l'inspecteur Pendenrgast et ça se ressent, livre qui manque un peu de maturité par rapport aux suivants, trop de personnages et des longueurs.

3.0 out of 5 stars pour le bus

Une seule enquête de Pendergast portée à l'écran : et ce roman de bus, de train est devenu une série entre B et Z. Ces livres ne demandent qu'à nous distraire et, écrits de façon cinématographique, attendent encore une adaptation de qualité.

3.0 out of 5 stars La suite?

3.0 out of 5 stars Formulaic and cliché-ridden
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 1 February 2014

This book started a successful run for the authors, but I can't think why. It has all the formulaic stuff, to the point that it is almost (but not quite) funny. Set in a famous museum of natural history, the leading characters are all lowly people of shining moral integrity, while their bosses are either corrupt, stupid or more commonly both. How did they get those jobs? The working classes - in the form of museum guides, guards and police, are invariably stupid, ill-educated and high on substances. And guess what! Deep in the lower recesses of the museum is a ghastly carnivorous monster who eats people! Need I go on? When the late Duke of Wellington was addressed by a passer-by as 'Mr. Jones, I believe?' he replied 'Sir, if you believe that you will believe anything.' Anyway it all ends in mad scientist territory, with a renegade curator breeding up the monsters so that he can Take Over The World. So what's new?

Le premier de la saga Pendergast et sûrement le moins réussi, mais il faut absolument le lire et ensuite se précipiter sur les suites....EXTRA
