I really enjoy these books. Rachel Bright and Jim Fields make an excellent team. The illustrations are outstanding and fun and the story line is always constructed in a way that cleverly and rhythmically conveys a great personal character message. I’m a a big fan. Cheers to you both. Anne M
I don’t think I’ve ever read a more enjoyable children’s book. I bought this and the worrysaurus For my son has has some anxiety/worry/fear issues, he’s 3in a few days & he can spend too much time in his head, over thinking everything. He can go a while where I think he’s crossed that bridge & then Something triggers his behaviour & it then opens new subject matters in his little & before you know it he’s diving into the couch at the sound of passing cars &hiding from the lamp post outside (it looks like a dippy-docuss) & worried that he’ll get bitten by a shark. The Gruffalo is his absolute worst nightmare & unfortunately it’s everywhere, it’s on other Julia Donaldson books, in other Julia Donaldson books, it now has a child. It’s also a nursery fave. He loves books though, we spend a lot of time reading & he enjoys trips to the library. Over time I’ve been looking for books to help him be brave & think more in the now. Some of the books I’ve looked at that are aimed at toddlers with issues like worry or fright but are absolutely ridiculous, with overbearingly depressing titles, written using language that over complicates their problem & could easily baffle the mind of a 3 year old. But they over complicate how to handle things as a parent. The message needs to be positive & fun. At the end of the day, the importance should be that the child enjoys books, books are supposed to be loved & you can’t not enjoy this book. It’s just as lovely as the others from the author & beautifully illustrated but I found it a real giggle & therefore so did my boy. I don’t know why we didn’t buy it sooner. Everyone should own this book, it’s not just for worriers, it’s a brilliant read. (The worrysaurus was also a huge hit in our house)
I love kids books that have a bit of a moral and some rhymes in them, and so do my daughters. Rachel Bright writes some lovely stories and so far this our favourite of hers.
I bought my daughter the classics at first, the tiger who came to tea, five minutes peace, peace at last, those types of stories, but they're actually quite boring to both read and listen to. The lion inside is an exciting story with chances for the listener to join in if they want and lovely rhymes that make listening to relaxing.
This book was brought for my 3 year old son for his birthday and I loved it so much I brought more copies to give to his friends for their birthdays. My son likes it when we do the squeaky little mouse voice and the big roary lion voice and even though the main message goes over his head a bit, I think we will still be reading it to him in a few years when he understands a bit more. All my favourite childrens books are the ones that have a really heartfelt message and this one delivers that in spades. It's all about being brave and coming to accept yourself as you are. The pictures are really lovely too. Definitely one of my favourite books to read.
Having exhausted a large supply of children's books (including the usual Julia Donaldson books), we decided to try something different. Having read many good reviews about the Lion Inside, we decided to give this book a go, and I must say it's been an absolute pleasure to read to our young daughter, & quickly becoming a new favourite.
Beautifully illustrated, with a much higher standard of writing than I've found in many current children's books (which seem to have forced rhymes and can be quite... challenging... to read repeatedly for parents), we would strongly recommend this book for children big and small- and the board book makes a perfect gift too!
Ordered with prime, and delivered very quickly despite current Covid-19 climate- brilliant.
A fantastic book, and a great buy. This book is one of my boys favourite books to listen to us read on a night to help him relax before bed (almost every night with this book, and my partner has actually managed to memorise it word for word). Read with character and expression, the story comes alive very well, very easily. It has a good underlying message and is fun all the while. Illustrations are excellent and very highly recommend it.
A really lovely, well written, spot-on-rhyming book. Sweet, simple illustrations and one of those kids' books that parents won't mind reading over and over again as it rhymes so nicely, isn't too long (the bane of every parent at bedtime!) and has a really uplifting, positive message. A great book to help build confidence in little ones and I think it would particularly resonate with children who feel small, shy or lacking in confidence. What a find!
