These books should come with a warning. I mean honestly how are you supposed to get your kids to sleep after reading them books like this. The Oi series of books just cause raucous laughter and fits of giggles which is not helpful at all at bedtime. I myself pulled a muscle in my side after reading this book for the first time and honestly how am I supposed to be taken seriously telling my boys to calm down and go to sleep when this book makes me giggle every time I read it. These book need to be banned at bedtime immediately!!
Second part in the series after OI FROG. Same as OI FROG, the kids loved OI DOG. It's very funny, and the rhymes are really catchy. The dynamics of the rhymes remind me of the much loved The Cat in the Hat. If you haven't read OI FROG yet, get that one first. Myself I was a little disappointed, because the book isn't all that different from the first, OI DOG. A bit of a twist would have been welcome. Instead of the grumpy cat, who made the rules in the OI FROG book, it's now the frog who makes his rules. I preferred the cat in OI FROG as the main character, he is such a character - typical blasé as cats are !
My Children and I absolutely LOVE these books... This one is MY personal favourite! Reading this book, in our house, gets very crazy as we laugh and shout at all the animals; especially Cat, Dog and that Frog... while learning about the different letter sounds, and spellings... and the correct seat for each animal, of course! Suitable for all ages; My son (7) now reads them to his sister (4)... and they can't get enough of them!
Ah my 5 year old loves "oi frog" and decided his reward for reaching the top of his reward chart should be "oi dog"...we now read them back to back (complete with voices) and no doubt we will be adding to the collection with the remaining titles. It's great for rhyming.... except "elephants" and "smelly pants" is a little dubious in my opinion 🙄
This book and the series are a great way to get your child interested in reading. The rhymes and illustration helped our 3 and 5 year old children develop their reading and it started with borrowing Oi Frog from the library. They loved the book so much that we have bought the whole set. At night we sit back and video them reading out different parts with each taking on the part of the frog, the cat and the dog. Brilliant. Highly recommend and no we are not related to writers.
