This is story of these girls who found great friendship in the worst circumstances. The story gives the reader a glimpse into the life in England when, for a prison offence, people were transported to Australia. The journey is described in detail leaving an imprint of exactly what it was like to travel so far with the trials of food, weather, space, unscrupulous people, fear and a wonder at what was to come in this new land. An amazing stop. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
This was my first Deborah Challinor book and I loved it. Am almost finished the series. Characters are loveable and storyline believable. I read a lot of early australiana and this author is right up there for research and storytelling. I love that she writes as people speak and uses language and phrases as it would have been. Highly recommended
