This is a pretty cool concept but It lacks one main feature and the reason why i returned it, if your buying this to play any pokemon game or any game that saves u cant save in game, I bought it cause I wanted to replay pokemon and eventually trade with my brother like the old days but that was short lived once I figured out it doesnt save unless u created a save file In the app either way it doesnt save to the cartridge, if they fix this I'd gladly buy another one

but there are better options than this of course, honestly i'd say just get a gameboy.

the big draw to this of course is running it on a nice high quality screen which is great, the games look great and sound is good too depending on the phone. the buttons and feel are all fine as long as your phone fits in which most should, i have a 10 + and there's still more room than needed.

the biggest issue with this is that set up is tedious, you have to install 2 different programs to get it started and while using them and having the adapter you can't access all of the menu options as you can't see them and the screen doesn't adjust to fit them in the usable space so you'll have to take off the unit to make sure you select the right options.

and here comes the big one, it doesn't save the game data on the cartridge. while it does allow you to play the game from a cartridge, basically what it is doing is dumping the ROM, pulling it in to the emulator and then allowing you to play. if you want to save you have to do it on your phone but you won't be able to transfer it to an actual cartridge for use on a proper gameboy after the fact.

it's a nice novelty item, but again, there's better options.

Hardware feels great and works well.
That is where it ends...

It dumps the rom rather than playing off the cart ... Strike 1
It cannot write a save back to the cart ... Strike2
It depends on third party emulators ... foul
Even a Galaxy s9 will not fit with a VERY thin case. ... Strike 3

Hyperkin ... you're out and headed back to the minors.

Its neat but not what id hoped for. if you want to download old gb/c games its cool but if you want to use your phone as a gameboy its not all that its made to be. It like others have said does not play the cartridge directly. it copies the data and uses an alternate emulayor to run it. Meaning you can not save to cartridge either. I purchased to get my data off a gameboy camera and it did not even load the file. very disappointed. was a complete waste.of money in my experience.. but does what advertised and does have back trigers so can play gameboy advanced games with it as well. to program you can use the provided long cable. so does have a little extra value.

it lacks adequate software, which makes it a misleading product, it does not reproduce cartridges, it copies them to the phone and moves them with an emulator. works with any emulator in the store.In addition, the one that covers half the screen forces you to remove it repeatedly, that makes its handling very uncomfortable.
