Wishing chair does not need any further review. Before buying this specific edition, couldnt find any review of it so thought of adding it. This deluxe edition from Egmont is quite gorgeous in size and illustrations. There around 9 full size and 3 half size illustrations plus decorative pictures at the start and end of each chapter. Illustrations are color sketches. My Kid loved reading those short stories and illustrations certainly added value to it. A good edition for your library.
After reading the Faraway Tree series to my 3 year old girl I was on the lookout for something else to read and this came recommended. I purchased this and it went down very well. After putting my little one to bed I typically read a chapter or two until she falls asleep. Chapters are short and easy to follow. There aren't a huge amount of characters to remember and they go on numerous fun adventures. It's a lovely night time read for the little people. Highly recommended.
Great story. We have just finished this book, I read it aloud to my 7 year old, with him reading the odd half page. He loved it. It was the first book we read that did not have colourful pictures, but he didn't mind at all, he said he had all the pictures in his head. He cant wait for us to read his next 'big boy' novel. I've already ordered 'The wishing chair again'.
The Adventures of the Wishing Chair was the book I always asked for at bedtime because it was so full of different adventures and was so imaginative. Nothing has changed. This is still a beautifully written, magical book that begins in an Antique Store (always a source of potentially marvellous things!) down a mysterious and shady side alley and goes from there... Blyton gets 5 stars from me for each of her books but this one is still the best.
I absolutely loved these stories when growing up. That sat there is nothing particularly ‘luxury ‘ about this book considering it is a ‘gift edition ‘. Would have just brought the normal paperback if I’d known!
After ordering this I was alerted to English Heritage's recognition of Enid Blyton's work as racist, xenophobic and lacking literary merit. So I decided not to read this to my four year old and returned it.
