Rachel Mitchell did a great job in writing her books, for sure. But if I was allowed to compare the IELTS authors, I would definitely argue that Mike Wattie could produce better IELTS references as he gives model essay templates and lots of secrets in the speaking book, too. Mike, if you hear me, that would be excellent if you could publish the same books of the listening and reading sections too - there is an aim to go for, I believe!

I only had four weeks to prepare for the IELTS Academic and wanted to focus on improving my weaker point which was the Writing part of the test. If you are already an advanced English student and are time constrained, Dr Mitchell's book will definitely help you achieve a high score. There is plenty of useful advice on the nature and structure of the essays, the vocabulary to describe trends, tenses, making an argumentation, common grammar mistakes etc. IELTS is more about understanding the exam requirements and format than your mastery of English language -but you still need to have good level though :-). I scored an overall 8.0 on my test, and this book played a major part in my grade. This book had an excellent return on investment ratio in my situation. The only reasons I haven't given 5 stars are for a few typos here and there, and for the lack of page numbers.

This is a structure oriented book. Quite handy for those wishing to score high in the IELTS writing section, yet some of the content encountered need refinement. My English professor was utterly annoyed because Grammar errors are frequently encountered as well as wrong choice of words. She was surprised to find such a great book with such mistakes. To be honest if it was not for these silly mistakes I would have gave it a five stars rating. Overall this is a good Book and I recommend it to all wishing to pass their IELTS.
