5.0 out of 5 stars FAMILY FARE
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 22 December 2011

The 600 acre Bartlett ranch, in the family six generations, now specializes in troubled horses. Sudden tragedy places the future in doubt. Jack and granddaughters Lou and Amy struggle to cope - helped by former tearaway Ty, who is on probation. The odds are against, the challenges immense. What hope of success?

This Canadian series works a treat. Unashamedly it unholds traditional values without being preachy. Great to look at. Likeable characters. (Amber Marshall particularly impressive as fifteen year old Amy, she having inherited her mother's horse healing skills.) Strong feeling of community. Interesting storylines, including the one concerning estranged father Tim - he so anxious to atone for his failings ten years earlier.

Mean people hover, but are dealt with. (Some viewers may wonder if rich neighbour Val is a distant relation of Sue from "Glee".)

Thirteen forty two minute episodes. Thirty five minutes of interesting bonus features. They tell of attempts to transfer popular books to the screen without disappointing loyal readers. Cast discuss the characters they play.

Heartwarming fare, rather badly needed in this cynical world. Welcome this chance to share the Bartletts' adventures, their disappointments, triumphs. A "must see" for young horse lovers. Wholeheartedly recommended.

I had never heard of this series before and i was looking for some dvds with horses involved, and to see some nice green countryside,( as at writing this review it is january 2016 and we are fed up of dark nights and cold wet days and nothing on tv) so i read the reviews and thought i would give it ago. and i am thoroughly enjoying it. we owned horses in the past and never used a whip or a bad word, and all worked out well, I am enjoying this so much so i ordered series 2...keep me going till spring....well worth a try, acting is pretty good and story line not bad.........

Horses have always been a favourite pastime of mine, but now as I am unable to be involved with them personally, I have to watch them on TV, films or series. I have watched all six of the Heartland series and they are a delight, especially as they involve the horses so much as well as the family story. I have found the series a delight and I am hoping that Amazon will be able to get season 7 for me to buy. If you all want a soft hearted and family type series then Heartland is the one to watch!!

Totally GUTTED - I am deaf and guess what NO SUBTITLES - why is this in this day and age? The series has been aired with subtitles and I have discovered that Entertainment 1 advertise these with subtitles in USA so why not in the UK? Disgusted!

I am into horses so I was just looking for anything equestrian when I saw Hartland on the list. Friends of mine in Canada had mentioned it before but did not rate it at all. However after the first episode I was hooked. If you are into horse at all then you will just love this.

There are some good storylines involving the principle characters . but mostly it's about the horses. Trying to keep the ranch going as a commercial venture while not losing sight of the main purpose of the place which is to rescue and retrain horses, causes friction at times between Amy and her sister Lou. With Grandfather Jack still clinging to the old ways there are some interesting blow ups from time to time.

The riding sequences are well done and the main character Amy looks good on a horse. The old love triangle pops up a little too often but overall it's great entertainment.

I just bought series two, three and four.

Best family film i've ever saw. It's mix of Drama, Romantic & Comedy. But this film not for everybody. Here there is no action, or special effects. Just a great story that shows life condition. How many families live simple lives as one community. Going trough good and bad together. And this film specially for those people who have love to the horses. First time i saw this series on TV. Then i ordered entire collection. So that i can watch again someday. Or show to my friends.

This is a great series for any horse lover. You can almost smell the stables and the hay meadows . A standard mix of family characters, but all actors have been cast well and the acting, especially from the young people is pretty good. All sorts of horses, all sorts of stories- believable story lines . I am already watching series 2. It looks like there are 9 more?

I live in Bali, Indonesia and a horse lover. At first I only browsed at Amazon.uk to find a good recommended dvd about horse. I found this Heartland in the list horse TV dramas. I tried to purchase The First Complete series and I LOVED it!!!! This is truly family drama and showed a lot of good horse as well as Amy talent as horse whisperer. The cast are extraordinary, the setting are amazing and the characters in the story are interesting. I was really carried away with the story line that sometimes also quite touching and I could not help my tears. I am far away from Canada, really grateful by watching this series as if I am travelling to Alberta Rocky Mountain. After finished watching the 1st series I quickly ordered the series 2 and 3 which were also REALLY GOOD! think 5 stars are not enough for this series!

This tv series is very family based and enjoyable. The series is filmed and based around a horse ranch in a town in Alberta Canada. The countryside is stunning all year round. I really enjoy the series and so far have watched 7 series.
